Building In The Hive Vs. Building Outside It

I prefer to build outside it
Marines and Commanders, which do you think is a better solution to winning matches. To build and occupy the hive area, or to build outside it and guard with siege cannons?

Personally, I have noticed that building inside the hive creates a hot spot for aliens. They all know where to attack, and its usually such a larger area to occupy. Whereas, you could build outside the hive (not in front of the door, but to the nearest resource node/sieging range) and keep guard on the area with siege cannons and phase gates.

Has anyone else tried this stategy? I've seen it work, and it works well.
Let me know what you think

Makes sense, but usually, you'll want to put a RT inside the hive room, and that needs turret backup.

Unless you're leaving a marine in there to serve as a constant spotter, setting up siege bases outside won't work in 1.04.

The only reason people did this before was to have the gorge *spend* the 80 on the Hive, and then have the sieges attack it, wasting resources, the Hive, and the gorge.

But sieges need a spotter from here on out.

Very good for 1.03, not so good for 1.04. You can still do it to annoy, but a spotter will be needed and it will annoy you just as much.

Or you could every two minutes or so just scan the hive, which may not be a waste of resources if you are able to secure an extra node in doing this.

For example: in caged - the sewer hive. I find it better ti build in pumping station, and get that node, than build inside sewer and get no node.

generator hive on the same map has the same issue, yet it seems that is most often built in the hive.

The only good spot to cover it from is stability monitoring, and that's a pain to defend well - too many obstructions. Lerks have an easy time with turrets.

In generator itself smart lerks have a real easy time on takin it out on theirselves when undefended. becuz there is a pipe in the air and usually a comm builds the tf at the end of generator and a phasegate in the middle, all exactly above the pipe, no trrt will hit u anyway. One time I was alien the marines had secured sewer and generator and they were about to siege our only hive, at that moment me and another lerk were clearin generator, it was easy becuz of all the marines wanted to see the last hive get sieged.
It was all a great timing becuz 2 of the aliens got just enough time to evolve to fade and clear sewer hive and voila we won of course

i always build my bases out side of the hive cause most of the time its easyer to defend , that map with the sewer hive the room next to it it much better protecect because the hive has to mnay bits where lerks can just hide and spike the turrets.

in 1.04 this will have to change tho , but if you have 2 segies at the base outside the hive and they get a hive up all it will take it one guy to go see it and *splat*

I mostly build inside the hives unless i have just sieged it.
    Q. why?
    A. because im scared a skulk will get through and hide in there and evolve into a gorge. Then the gorge will spam OC's everywhere we he has res 2 do alot. This catched the comm of guard if he hasnt built a siege, but if he has no need to worry

I usually build in the hive but sometimes I set up some turrets and a siege or two at a res node close enough outside the hive to siege it if the aliens take it back. That way, I dont' just have a bunch of turrets and a phase gate outside the base sitting there doing nothing, at least I'm making money in the process
