No Opengl Mode Supported, & Driver Trouble

It was Happyfun Confusion Night
OMG SO FURSTRATIGN! But seriously now. Also, let's all make sure to understand that I've been a mac user until up to about the middle of last year, just as a gauge of my PC n00bosity.

So okay, Software mode is disabled for this mod. Or, well, not disabled, but I can't really pull up the command menu things, and it occasionally goes wonky and drops me. But the other two options are giving me headaches. I've already tested every single option selectable, and I always get "Selected OpenGL mode not supported by your graphics card" when trying to start a solo test game via the LAN option, using OpenGL (obviously). It looks like it's going to start the game, but then it just dumps me back in the create game list. Fiddlesticks, you know?

When I try D3D, the game gets choppy, the lag is about three seconds or so, all the textures get blinky and epileptic, but atleast the command menu pops up... sort of. Walking around in D3D is like playing with a ping of 3000 and command lag at the same time.

I've already made attempts to download happyfun new drivers, and I think that might have been the cause of all these problems. I've gone to http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?IO=winxp-2k_40.72 and all, even updated Windows and all that. I also am now getting this message every time I start up my computer, if that helps.

RUNDLL
Error loading C:\WINDOWS\System32\NvCpl.dll
A dynamic link library (DLL) initialization routine failed.

I hadn't started screwing around downloading new drivers since I got my computer all put together sometime mid last year. Here are the spex on it.

SiS P4 @ 2.2 GB
512 MB SDRAM (I've already forgotten which number it was... 9_9)
60 GB HD
Soundblaster Audigy Platnum
MSI G4Ti 4200, 64MB.

Earthlink DSL
WinXP
(And yet I still get weak pings of 60, atleast on TF. Must figure out where the bottleneck is. <30 or bust, baby.)

So, any advice on how to smack the graphics card, drivers, or whatever into shape? I'm hanging here. This game looks freegin' beautiful.

40.72 detonator drivers are a little past their time i think, grab these drivers:
    ftp://download1.nvidia.com/Windows/41.09/....09_win2kxp.exe

that may help it work. if you got yourself a new monitor too, try open gl in the MAXIMUM resolution (1600x1024) it may help, and if that is worse thatn 640x480, then keep trying all the others after you have the new drivers
