Gorge Making A Difference

<div class="IPBDescription">not a strategy per se</div> the other day i was in an interesting game.

i was either on a horrible khaara team or there was an excellent marine team, but marines were butchering aliens 4 aliens to the one marine.

i was gorge for most of the map, started in power silo, blocked lift with 3 defensives, got up 4 towers, layed a hive, defended the hive with offensives, went back to silo defended silo with offensives, then movement time, then all aliens were fades for a while, then, lo and behold, i see a marine with a jetpack scurrying into the viaduct vent siegeing location

as a gorge i couldn't follow so i called for backup... none came, so i evolved into skulk, killed the marine, then back to gorge, then got killed while saving for offensive chambers in there (friggin hmg jetpacker) called for backup a bunch more, still none came, so again i went in as skulk and killed the marine as he wsa building a fac. ok, back to gorge, 3 offensives 1 defensive. ought to keep em out.

Then all of a sudden power silo was under attack.

once again i called for reinforcements and got none, rushed to a movement chamber, found a siege camp up high, (sneaky fckin marines) and one fade trying to destroy it with acid rockets (honestly, wtf!?!?!?) i immediately evolved to skulk, rushed up, and chewed down the single siege and fac. then it was back to gorge lay down offensives RE BUILD HIVE which had been sieged dead, re build tower, lay down more offensives.

Then LO AND BEHOLD via was under siege, i rushed back there (this time there was two lerks and a skulk there) and instantly notivced that somehow the marines had erected a full siege camp with phase and turrets on the walkway above via, unfortunately none of the skulks around seemed to know where it was, let alone how to circle bite a turret. after dieing twice trying to take down the camp, i gave up on viaduct and went to look at cargo. there was a single lerk there trying to spike a turret.

OMG, i circle bit the turret, then chewed down fac, then got everyone over to cargo, evolved to gorge, built cargo hive (this is 4th hive built) and all the aliens turned up to try pushing back the marines.

then, guess what happened?

POWER SILO UNDER SIEGE AGAIN!

somehow they got a single marine in there with a jetpack and grenade launcher. again, single fade trying to take out siege camp with acid rockets. once again, skulk, climb munch, gorge offensive, hive, tower.

by this time the assault from cargo had been pushed back and cargo was destroyed, so again, run run run, over to cargo, build cargo AGAIN (6th hive built) and two defensives near it. unfortunately i had no back up this time and a ha/hmg troop with a la/welder fish came to end it for me, and from there it was pretty much down hill. but goshdarn what a fight

tactical purpose of this story?

a) ALWAYS check those hidden siege locations
b) a fade is not always best alien for every situation, if you have to defend a hive it would be worth de-volving (although i spose a blink maaay have been possible)
c) noobs on pub servers are lame

a: absolutely. This happened to us. We were utterly thrashing them, and all of a sudden psilo goes down... it took a matter of minutes to correct the problem and get the hive up but in other games we might not be so lucky

b: weeell if these little outposts are well defended and there's a reasonable chance of losing the hive, de-evolving from Fade is a very silly idea. The Kharaa really need all the Fades thy can get. Those things are expensive. It's one thing to evolve from Gorge to Skulk, it's quite another to go from Fade to Skulk.

c: yes. the subject has long whiny rants by the bucketload on the general forum <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
