your description of "upgrade to dom games to the quake 1 engnine" is completely inaccurate. ZDoomGL doesn't have ANYTHING to do with the quake engine. Its still the DOOM engine, just in OpenGL. More specifically, its the ZDoom engine rendered in OpenGL. :P

Home of jDoom, jHeretic and jHexen (Doom OpenGL upgrade).

I always liked DemonStar (look around on Download.com for a link). Nice space shooter.

you mean gobliins 2 right, each game in the series:
    gobliiins
    gobliins 2
    goblins 3

and the amount i's stands for how many goblins you have.

    One word: Tenebrae.

DOOManiac should already know about this mod. It basically takes your install of the full <i>or shareware</i> version of Quake 1, and slaps in all of the features John Carmack claims will be in Doom <b>III</b>.

    Yes, the mod is free.
    <a href='http://tenebrae.sourceforge.net/' target='_blank'>The Tenebrae website can be found here at <a href='http://tenebrae.sourceforge.net/</a>' target='_blank'>http://tenebrae.sourceforge.net/[/URL]</a>
And is a fairly small (~10 meg) download for the mod alone. If you want to download replacement models/skins to give the maps more detailed textures and the enemies/items more polygons, you'll have to download a few extras from the sites the Tenebrae main site links to (remodeling project, retexturing project, etc.)

    <img src='http://tenebrae.sourceforge.net/shots7/quake00099.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>

No, these are NOT doom 3 screenshots; they're quake 1 screenshots with the Tenebrae mod. Just wait till you show this thing off with all the enemies generating real-time per-pixel lighting and shadows and <insert industry buzzword here> and stuff.

I suggest the new scorched 3d or the old scorched earth game. Both classics and both still fun. Soldat is a sorta goofy cs side scrolling shooter kinda thing that is also fun for a good while. All can be found by searching by name for the stuff^

Yeah Tenebrae does have some things DOOM 3 has that are obvious, like real time per-pixel lighting. but DOOM 3 has a lot of more subtle things Tenebrae doesn't heh. But yeah Tenebrae is great.

Also for those of you who see how bad Tenebrae runs on your system on things like the test map, do not fear for DOOM III. Carmack is an infinately better coder than anyone else period. I mean hell he writes things in assembler himself because he can be more efficient than the compiler. That says quite a bit right there heh.

There are several good open-source games to download at www.sourceforge.net

Transfusion: My favorite, it's a Quake 1 engine port of the DOS game Blood, specifically designed for multiplayer. Quite fun.

BZFLAG: Not my cup of tea, but a good game nonetheless, an arcade-style tank simulator, which has pretty good CTF play.

The Ur-Quan Masters: A Win32 port of Star Control, or Star Control 2, or both, I forget... anyway, it's definately playable.

Also check out <a href='http://soldat.cyberion.pl/main.htm' target='_blank'>Soldat</a>. Damn fun.
