Textures

What are all the screen shots capturedat
The screen shots have really good texture but what res are they captured at? I have a decent 3D card (geforce 2titanium) but im not sure my res can go up to 1024x768 without it turning into a slideshow, but I really want to experiance the game to its fullest and will buy a new 3D card if I have too.

And does anyone else know if I just need more ram to play at 1024x768? I only have 64MB at the moment, would a 128mb memory stick make 1024x768 hicupless?

Thanks for the help in advance

Errm, 64 megs? I am running 384 megs and I want more
The MINIMUM you should have is 128, but with todays computers, you should have 256 megs for anything to run.
What processor do you have too?

my specs are....

Pentium III
63.0 MB Ram
32 bit vr memory
64MB, 200 MHz processor PCI geoforce 2 "titanium" (256-bit GPU)
30 GB disk space

I dont know the mhz for the pIII but I think its 675 million cycles per second

yah, I would just up the RAM and it would help alot The rest of your specs seem playable by far

hmm well does anyone know what res the shots where? If you knew how hard it was to upgrade hewlett packards you would be reluctant to upgrade too . I accidently drop a screw when installing my geforce and it took about an hour to get it out.

I have never installed a memory stick before can somone tell me the genral area its near. Is it twords the card slot proccessor or hard drive?

Each motherboard is different when you're talking about upgrading, but RAM tends to group in slots of four, each the same length as the others, and tends to be the only other slots on the board except for the AGP/PCI slots that you put cards in. Just look for four or so small sticks sticking out of the board.

my mother board is crazy the guy who designed the HP's did it for lamens who dont upgrade. OF course when I bought it I knew almost nothing about cpu's (not that I know alot now) But thanks for the genral road map. Hmm so if you got 4 64 mb memory sticks you could have 360 ram *drools*

Actually you'd have 256. And a thing to remember about RAM is that you have to have it in pairs. You have four slots, and in each pair of slots must go -identical- chips. They must be the same speed, and size. So, you could have two 64's and two 128's, but not a 64 and three 128's. You've probably got two 32's.

Anywho, just moved this over to the Mapping forum where they should be able to tell you what resolution the shots are in.

(I know you have to play in at least 800x600, but that's all I know)
• Bob_the_alianBob_the_alian Join Date: 2002-01-26 Member: 107Members
took me a while to figure out it was moved at first i thought it was a board error then I thought it was a deleation and I did somthing evil without knowing it.

anyway can memory stick function alone or you do you have to get pairs for them to work (since mine is 64 do i have 2 32 mbs?) and If i wanted more ram and it was a single 64MB memory stick would i have to buy one 128 MB stick and replace it or 2 64 MB to replace it just to get to 128?

*answer in PM, since this thread -needs- to stay on topic... resolutions*

I play HL at 1024x786 (Or similar). I don't get any hiccups unless I have Worldcraft running in the background (cos then my 3D card is powering two things).

On the other hand, I have 1024Mbs of RAM so I don't think that's going to cause many problems

I too, normally capture at 1024x768, but then I resize the screenshots to 640x480 before posting them.

Alright, if you want a good resolution for screenshots, do 'em in 800x600. This way, it's nice and easy for everyone to look at and download.

Except the commander mode in nstr 1 doesnt work in anything other than 1024x768

That will be fixed, they did that just so they could get it released. It will support any resolution once it released (and maybe even in NSTR2! )

Bob,

If you have an HP I recommend visiting their site and looking up your model Here.. Then, once you pick your PC, you will be presented the option get drivers, learn upgrade steps, etc. You should be able to find your RAM at a Best Buy, Circuit City, etc.

Ok I got more ram installed it yada yada yada, but when I go to system proporties it still says 64 MB. My uncle said that his didnt either at first but that doesnt mean its not working. Is that right? Or do I have to take it back to frys and try a different type?

Yep, all resolutions will be supported in the final version of NS, and also in the NSTR2.

Bob, I would need to know the exact model of HP you have. Some BIOS' require that you run the setup routines in order to recognize more RAM. Another likely problem is that the memory is not fully seated and needs to be locked down into the slots more tightly. Also, if RAM is the wrong type it may not be recognized, or (more likely) it will keep the PC from booting. You can tell this by removing your old RAM and just booting with the new DIMM.

My HL turns into a slide show at 800 x 600. Ya, it sucks.
I also experienced a similar problem with my video card. I just got a NVidia GeForce 2 MX, and I was sooo psyched. Then I hooked it up, and it's like the system doesn't know it's there. In the system properties it still says it's using the ol Riva 128 (don't laugh!). So I was really disappointed going back to that crap.

My suggestion in these situations is to find a buddy or relative who is a competent computer technician and have them help you out. If you don't know enough about your PC, and don't have the time or desire to learn, it's the best you can usually do.

You wouldn't have a car problem and just say 'oh well, I didn't really need that 4th cylinder anyway' would you? You'd have a mechanic take a look, as they are the expert. Same with your PC.

I have a HP pavilion model 8750c (us-can). When I got to device manager it shows two memory sticks and says there both working properly, but when I go to system proporties under the genral tab it still says 64 mb (well 63)Ram and windows on a fresh boot still uses up 42% of my resorces.

The resolution (even in 1024x768) seems to have little effect on the performance. atleast with my TNT and 128RAM...

Ignoring Windows for a moment.

How much RAM counts up when you boot the machine (at the POST screen, I mean)? How much shows up when you go into the BIOS setup? HP docs claim that it should autodetect if the RAM is the correct type and seated properly.

Also, did you do what I said above, removing your old RAm and booting with your new DIMM, to make sure it's working at all?

I tried looking for the ram count at boot up, but I just cant find it. Im not sure mine displays it. I guess im just going to take out the default 63mb stick and see what happens, Be back in 4 hours (HP CASES )
