Good marine stratagy no-longer revolves around holding two hives.
If you can slap a phase down in a hive and then pour troops in when it looks like its going to fall thats all good and well but 2 lerks can kill that phase so fast you'll never see it happen (all it takes is 1 single other alert just befor and it'll die befor you notice).
So what's a com to do now he cannot just turret farm up in the hives? (turret farms were made to keep the phase gate safe, if you can't protect your turret farms then the aliens will isolate them with WOL and then destroy them killing off your investment.)
Upgrades!
Armour level 1 and motion tracking are you first prioritys.
(if you can get these befor they have 2 hives your marines have an advantage and if the aliens don't outclass you player for player you can theoretically at this point walk into their hive and camp/outspawn them to death)
After this you can eather exploit the hidious jetpack problems or go HA/HMG.
Insure you have upgraded the armoury asap, it no longer prevents the troops grabbing ammo. You don't give out HMG you just drop 1 GL if the aliens are hiding in vents or offencive building.
after that you probably want weapon upgrade 1 then HA.
While the HA upgrades you want weap and armour upgrades level 2.
If while you do this you send out squads to kill res nodes/gorges, it is possible to get to HA/HMG without the aliens having 2 hives, but if they have two hives you just advance a huge group of HA/HMG's under GL fire they reach somewhere near the hive you slap down an armoury and phase and keep on dropping the stuff at base. Then you move to the next hive. At this point you have enough res to slap down afew turrets and turret factorys to slow down the alien re-capture of their hive.
The point is there are two ways of playing: Deny the enemy tech. Tech up yourself.
The two hive turret lockdown was SOLEY denying tech to the enemy, this has been made significantly harder in 1.04. However teching up yourself has been made more powerfull AND cheaper.
Aliens only 'win all the time' because: 1) commanders have not adapted and are using 1.03 stratagys. 2) commanders are still building turret farms to protect things they cannot protect 3) commanders are failing to keep the enemy on the defencive 4) newbs prefer playing marines.

Actually, I think good marine strategies revolved around killing Kharaa.

EVERY FU*KING GAME the aliens got 2 hives they won (sieges are harder to use now). So dont tell me Fades are balanced. THEY ARE NOT. They are freaking tanks. Marines would have a chance in HA but once aliens get fades they are pushed back to base and only have 1 res node vs 7 or 8 on the alien side meaning loosing a fade doesnt matter.Turrets cant secure nozzles they are too weak. And a HA marine cant do nothing against a skilled Fade since they are so slow that they have no chance to get them.
MARINES CAN ONLY WIN IF THEY PREVENT FADES. Or the aliens are a bunch of newbies.

wrong. completely and utterly wrong. #1. if your comm cant get high enough on the tech tree to provide you with anti-fade equiptment, he sucks #2. if you have HA/HMG (hell even just an HMG) and you cant take down a fade, YOU SUCK.
like others have said b4: as fade i can kill HA marines, as marines i can kill fades (and do quite frequently) so what's the problem?
ill tell you what the problem is: marines see fades and they run like little fairies. half the time, if im a fade (which i refrain from using only b\c they are too damn slow, and i die MORE with fades than w\ skulks) a marine sees me, and doesnt even fire. he just turns tail and runs *IN A STRAIGHT LINE DOWN A LONG HALLWAY* so of course im gonna load him up w\ acid rockets. at that point he deserves to die
now if the marines have HA/HMG, they run LESS often, but they still do it. doesnt make any sense to me i've taken out 2 fades on my own w\ HA/HMG. granted it was difficult, in fact VERY difficult and i got very lucky, but thats what a 2 on 1 fight should be

As a Fade, I'm more scared of 3 marines with LA/LMG than 1 HA/HMG, because that means (if the marines are good) I've got to cross space 3 times to to kill the marines (as they fan out to different points in the room) rather than 1.
However, if I catch them in a corridor (which is pretty easy if ya sneaky) then they're all just varieties of mince.
Game is definitely not over just because fades show up. If the marines are caught with no res for ha or jp etc. well yes, it could be over, but still, it aint over just because the aliens get fades. I've managed to be on marine teams that saw themselves facing fades, having just 1 secure hive, and still managed to scrounge enough res for 3 ha dudes that then went to their hive while us LA lads kept the base clean of alien infestation. Now they were a bit miffed when they discover that their 2nd hive is under attack, which then suddenly eased the pressure on our own base, and whoopitee, phase gate up and a small army of marines pour into the now contested hive.
It ain't over till the fat hive farts it's last one.
Please stop saying the aliens are at an advantage when they aren't, play with some marines that can Think and Aim and you will see that it is quite a challenge to win as aliens.
If Aliens have 2 hives they don't always win at all. Whoever said that is stupid or playing on the wrong servers. Someone yesterday on a server said that Marines can never win, oh how wrong he was when we totally kicked his **** despite his team (aliens) having 2 hives.
The 2 hive thing is tricky depending on how well your side works as a team. If Aliens have 3 hives it's not the END of the game straight off ! You have chance to get the hive back before they can get onos etc sometimes you might be to late and get a few onos come flying at u, but if you take the hive back you have a chance. It's all teamwork and i can't believe how many people moan about things being unbalanced. For crying outloud shutup and stop whining like the silly little 12 year old kids do on servers crying for nade launchers at the start of the game.
Work as a team and your chances of winning are greatly increased it's as simple as that. If the Marine side always loses when Aliens have 2 hives on the server you play on then there are a couple of things which might be wrong.
1) Marines have a crap commander 2) The skill of the marines are just crap and can't aim/ use teamwork. 3) Aliens perhaps work as a team well and marines don't despite their skill. 4) The server is just generally a crap server ..lol..

And nothing is as funny as being the 'last' Onos, running back to your one hive because you only evolved just in time as the hive went down, healing and generally being scared as an onos cos they're all HA/HMG & all your teammates are now skulks.
