You should delete that map anyway. Your mapping inspiration was to create a reactor core.... which looks the same as the ones in one of the official levels? That's not inspired, that's mimicking someone elses work.

And as for setting your own map against the rest, you could always create your own textures (and not recreate parts of other levels).

Where have you seen a reactor core that looks just like that post? I'm still thinking... oh yeah nowhere. Although the geometry is about the same as every level, it breeds a kind of familiarity. That's good for atmosphere. I'm still waiting for cs_moonbase. I'll probably never see that, because it just doesn't fit the mood. Man, if I make anything cool, I'm sure as hell not posting it up here, where you people will simply chop me down to pieces. Daggone rabid wolves, the lot of you!

Ns_eclipse - here is a screenshot. A tutorial was posted on Valve ERC on how to create this, so people could adapt the idea and create something original.

The screenshot isn't very good, I seem to have taken it when all the electricity stuff has gone, but it goes up and down.

Oh really? So thats what it does....up...down...up...down...wow, Even though I've played ns_eclipse many many many times...I was a little confused on that...thanks for clearing that up for me.

SamR: I'm calling you out. Wth are you expectting?! That every single new NS map should not look anything, at all, like the last?! That is stupid, you do know that right? No, you obviously don't. Man, of all the self-rightious, arrogent things to say....You obviously didn't read this thread either, I specifically said I tried to base the core off of ns_eclipse to add some consistancy to this map! No, to hell with consistancy..let just make a bunch of gibberish..yeah, that would be much better. To make it look like it was a part of the NS universe, but your to short sighted to even think about such a possibillity. Oh, based on your sh*tty argument, I can easly say the same dam thing about almost every single reactor in every game! So, what you should have said, is "All you did was mimick a mimick, delete your map." That would bave been more accurate. Bravo buddy, way to help the NS community.

Read and think before you rant.

I'm begining to think the same thing myself...but..
For all you people you have some vision, here is the latest build.

Btw, I think this is the last time I post anything I made on this board.

I agree with CrAcKbRoCk, the usage of the textures and architecture is vailid. He did after all make a reasonable attempt to contact the creator of the textures. And trhe architecture of the generator room is reasonably original. Cut him some slack guys.

CrAcKbRoCk, don't take forum members too seriously, there posts are only suggestions. Suggestions can (and in some cases should) be ignored.

I think that looks damn good.

This thread raises a major issue. Because it has been done....does it mean it cannot be done again?

So what? Because it has been done before it cannot be done again? This is the same as this. Consistancy is good, makes it feel more real, when i get rond to my NS level, (damn i've been planning too long) i will no doubt use the same thing as it is a good effect.

I hope you do post some more of your work here as it is good.

lol, calm down.
I said that for the person who said he'd never seen the reactor like yours in NS. You can insult me all you like through this sarcasm/stroppy talk, but it just makes your seem more nieve than you already had.

I did read the entire thread before posting. A reactor in a different game? Yeah, ok, there have been reactors in other games, but they aren't identical to the one in Eclipse (though the one in Eclipse looks more refined).

You have used the same conveyor effect, the same electricity texture, and even the same textures behind the electricity (the blue grate kind of thing).

You could change it just slightly to make it your own...
You could change the electricity to another pattern, or different colour, or both.
You could even put the reactor on it's side. There are many things you could do, which would make it your own.

So calm down, it's hard to understand what you're actually trying to say in your last thread because you're so upset about this.

In my post I have not said anything about making maps totally different from the 'NS Universe.' Stop putting words into my mouth.

That quote should prove my point.

Crack, check my last post, there are some ideas there which count as constructive. Sorry for telling you to delete your map.

You're ignoring my later posts which have constructive critism in, and continue to quote and post messages from previous posts. I already apologised.

Stop dwelling on it, and get mapping!

No, I didn't. Ok, I think we have successfully got each other worked up SamR, and no I'm not being bithcy here(reverse the situation..you'd be ticked off too).
When I quoted ChromeAngel (from my perspective) you had not replied yet. Message boards aren't in real time you know (well, for the clients anyways).
Thank you for the appology. I appreciate that. I wasn't dwelling, just thanking someone who agreed with me.
Oh, about your comments. I'm not going to change it around, I would have to change the layout of the room and I'm not willing to, heh, sue me
Man, yeesh! This is not what I had in mind when I posted those pics...lmfao...*sighs*
You've got to love the way things go, ah well.
• SamRSamR Join Date: 2002-09-30 Member: 1382Members
Ok man *hugs*.

You don't necessarily have to change the layout of the whole room... you could just open it in Worldcraft, and turn the entire thing on it's side ! I once did this by mistake, I flipped an entire corridor vertically by accident, and it looked cool.... so I kept it.

Don't be englishmeanie. Yeah, that's a new word.

Are all reactor rods custom built differently? Probably not. It's a neat effect, it's not being overused (good taste), and the author explicity wants it to be used in different maps. I don't think it would fit the mood of your map, but it fits in here. BTW-I hate english nazis! Deutsch ist viel besser!

Ridiculous that some random people get upset about using the Triad style in another map, yet the person who made the Triad thought it was kinda cool to see someone else implementing it. Ah well, looks like things are sorted out.

In all honesty, it's rather flattering to see someone taking something that I've done and make their own version of it. That is, unless you actually do start ripping everything off directly, heh Which is of course not the case.

CrAcKbRoCk, I think your reactor room looks great. The brushwork is original, and regardless of what the smelly forum trolls may say, it doesn't look just like Eclipse. When I first saw it, I thought it was unique, but not too unique ... like it was another type of reactor designed and built by the same contractors that built the one for Eclipse, but a slightly different model from the same product line.
