Yea, I get the same problem, but I don't partly exit my HL/NS/CS/whatever. When I set my screen to 800x600 and I play for awhile, my screen freezes but nothing else does. So I have to restart HL. This does not happen in 640x480.

Specs:
400mhz
OpenGL mode
Voodoo3 3000 16mb AGP
Some stupid sound card from ESS.
and Cable internet (AT&T roadrunner.... bleh!)

try pressing esc twice ( once out of game and then once in game .. next time edit your controls before you join a server ..
