.....................
Okay Devs before I start my little crusade I must say congradulations. That being said, its time to b!tch, complain, moan and any other irritating act imaginable.
Actually no, I'm just adressing the issue of beta update distribution. Your tendencies are to give it to those servers where the more gifted players (ie: fists of ra) play. Before playing on one of these servers I played on regular pub games, and was in every game either first, second, or third on the team with a ratio of 2:1 or better. On Fists of Ra the skill level was a huge leap above that, and i was lucky to hold onto 5th position and a ratio of 1:1. This is was with the new beta patch (1.04) up as well. On this server every possible advantage of the patch was explored, and in a place where clan-like teamwork wsa commonplace.
This is where I begin to moan; you gave beta to a server whose matches are coordinated, hard and intelligent. You do not give it to the average server where skill and teamwork are dumbed down a bit. Therefore, the effects of you say changing the hp on phases so it works on servers like Fists of Ra were balancing, but on an average server they are.... less effective if not unbalancing.
I cant write anymore because my train of thought hit a caboose and my coal ran out. So yea.... Give beta to average servers or uh.... make some of the features only active in clan play, because most of the balancing issues have to do with tactics USED in clanplay, not in pubs.

Skill varies on my server from complete newbies (during the day) to a team full of sYn clan members (currently the best NS clan out there) on the server for hours on end during the night and early morning hours.
we are usually always full. and im not afraid to give the reserved slot or rcon to the dev team for testing and tweaking.
if you need it just say the word and its yours.

Ditto for me too btw.. I'm not sure what BioHazard is running but I'm running debian linux.. and I'll take it one step further.. I'll give ssh and ftp access to select dev team ppl.
And I'll one up YOU!
I'll send you my server, 3 circuits and firstborn son (He's rather noisy).
I am running 3 servers right now (possibly a fourth in a week or so), 2 at 18 spots (on a single box) and 1 at 30 (on a separate box) all Win2k Server. I would offer using any of the 3 for 1.04 testing.

I can run historical CPU and bandwidth graphing thru either MRTG or Solarwinds (probably a better choice).
always had that because of me and a buddies c++ goodies for sharing our stuff...

Hope everyone has a Good New Year.
Most of the bugs are linux-related (excess cpu usage, motion tracking disfunctional, etc. etc.)?
Even so I think that testing balance at the highest level of play is the only way to go. This is because people, in general, gain skill and clue as time progresses. Anything which isn't balance tested at the highest level will eventually break at that level as more and more people reach it and play at it, even in public.
You definately have a point. Eventually, most people will attain a higher level of skill as time goes on (usually a couple of weeks or so)... Siege crawling, phase rushes, etc, were not known when I first brought up my 3 servers.
I would suggest however, that the skill level on public servers are starting to get much higher (at least I've notice that the skill level on mine is much better) and that the maximum number of servers that can be used for testing, should be used for testing at least until the majority of issues are worked out.
Something that can be done is a side by side comparison. I (or anyone with a couple of servers) can set up 2 servers, one with the "old" version, one with the "new." Psychostats (or some type of statistical tool) can be used to track wins/losses, kills with individual weapons, etc. That data can be analyzed offline in addition to online play to make sure teams are not being stacked.

I see a few that pop up every now and then. Played on one for a few games. They're there, just not in the quantity and uptime of the windows test boxen.
