Bunnyhopping

Is it considered a threat?
Just did a quick search for bunnyhopping, and was unable to find a related topic. Was just wondering if some type of "stamina" system was going to be implemented for the marines, to keep them from madly leaping about to map to avoid the gobs of goo. If it was implemented, I don't think it should be as extream as DoD's (bunch of old ladies), but at least limiting to mabye 5-6 good jumps before having to pause for a few secs?

don't worry about it much, once you start getting more weapons you get weighed down a ton, so it really limits your ability to do this. Would you rather have a LMG and be able to hop, or be able to carry a shotty, HMG, and GL and mowdown everything, in a slower pace. Don't think bunny hopping is going to tamper gameplay at all.

Thx, was unaware of the "weight" issue with weapons.

Meh, just have those CS nightmares

Well, I figure you shouldnt be able to jump for a second after you jump - ala CS 1.4.

Seems to solve bh issues ...

• pielemuispielemuis Join Date: 2002-01-25 Member: 72Members, NS1 Playtester

Actualy bunny hoping hasent totaly ben fixed..
They sed they fixed it but I see the same problems as befor.Yes you have more of a chance to hit now but its still really bad.

Bunnyhoping; the bane of online gaming. Personally, I think that a lot of the problem will be solved by the physical attacks the aliens use. I HOPE someone tries to bunnyhop a lvl. 5. Of course, I'll get slaughtered right after that happens because I'll be too busy laughing to defend myself. There's also things like the "stinkcloud" to consider. Can't hop your way out of that. Add in weapon weight and I think we're in the clear.

Actually, this may end up being removed, but currently, aliens with the speed upgrade can bunny hop. Basically, Valve's fix is applied to everyone else, but aliens with speed.

Unlike in most other online games, I think bunny hopping is actually "in character" for the aliens, so I don't see it being bad, but good.

I've thought a lot about adding a marine stamina bar, but it won't go in unless it's really necessary. It's just one more thing to worry about and explain to the player (though this is familiar to many people by now). I mostly wanted the stamina bar so marines could choose to sprint for short distances occasionally, while keeping their general movement speed down (needed for the commander).

omg yes I wuv bunneyhopping!

Belive it or not, its a skill that takes a LONG time to get good at! just like conc jumping.

oh and I can strafe jump perfectly fine in TFC so I dont think valve removed that... but bunney hopping I still
see people (well some kick ### players I know) do alot, I just heard its alot harder.

I strafe jump like crazy It's the closest you can get to diving out of the way.

A sprint option would be cool. Sure come in handy if your being chased and that door is closing!

(don't know how many times thats happend to me while playing hunted)

Strafe Jumping for the Aliens is a great thing.

Bunnyhopping, however, isn't a general "moving forward" action. I think it'd look funny.

I hope there will be a speed limit for the aliens, I never was good at bunnyhopping but people could move really fast

Aliens can bunnyhop? That makes sense but...

Tiny: *poing poing poing*
Jimmy1: Did I just see a alien rhino bounce around like Kiki on sugar?
Jimmy2: You didn't see it.
Jimmy1: Yep, I didn't see it.

mabye a hoping thing for the aliens but not marines it dont make sense when a HUMAN jumps like a bunny rabbit or for this game an alien built for speed i mean come on
• GraheimGraheim Join Date: 2002-04-02 Member: 375Members
Exactly. I HATE bunnyhoping because no one would ever do it in real life. Aliens could do it, since we're making a whole new paradigm for them, but if Marines do it I'll be quite disappointed.

hahahah tsuz!!! Funny stuff! Personally i dislike bunny-hoppers, but I'm sure this topic is quite stale by now, there really isn't anything new to be said on the topic.

AND DON'T DIS BARNEY JED!!! He's so cuddley.... You just don't know him like I do!

I think aliens should have enhanced strafe jumping, because it looks alieny, but not bhoping.
• Res1Res1 Join Date: 2002-08-18 Member: 1187Members
If you really want to see if bunnyhopping will have an impact on the game , you need to get some really good bhoppers and have them play NS. It seems like to me the marines bhopping won't be too much of a problem because of the weight system for them carrying weapons, but for the aliens it seems like they will be able to bhop around like crazy. And it is pretty easy to bhop in tight corners if you're good at it.

And you'll still get slammed for it. My question was answered literally months ago. Thats why Fam said the question was answered in full. Flayra answered. The word of God. Dosn't get much higher than that.

I don't believe it will be an issue, the aliens are meant to be fast, and hard to hit. Besides, if I understand right, you need an explosion or something similar to get going with the b-hop. Unless a friendly marine want's to donate a grenade, I can't see it happening

As far as I know, Valve never instituted a full fix on bhopping in the Half-Life engine. Changes from game to game. They embraced it for TFC, but limited the top speed accessible to 170%. ried to get rid of it in CS by reducing air control, but that still didn't do it, so they just nerfed jumping (with the added side effect of making CS "more realistic").

I agree that it looks pretty dumb as is very unrealistic, but on a whole makes for a more entertaining game.
