I've drawn up a floorplan after being inspired to draw one up by ChromeAngel. It has a different structure though.

<img src="http://www.thepitnetwork.com/in_dev/ns_settlement1.jpg" border="0">

Notes:
- The Marines will spawn in an open area very defensable thanks to crates being stacked there.
- The top most hive is kind of squeezed between the walls where the water flows for the showers.
- Some closed-off corridors (especially near the newbie trap) can be blasted open or somehow
- The furnices may work or not *muhahaha*
- The bar will probably feature a jukebox with some home-made music lovin'
- The Little Computer Room will be handy to set up a guard post.
- The dormatories are a total mess. Topped over bunkbeds and bad lighting. The showers are flooded, misty and dark aswell.
- The top left hive is situated in a water tank
- The bottom right hive is situated in a water processing facility (pipes run from this area towards the shower via the ceiling or under the floors)
- The machine room houses malfunctioning machinery
- The small narrow maintenance corridor will be heaven for small aliens that like to have their victims on the bottom.
- There are lots of airducts and secret alien passage ways

Let me know what you think and if you have suggestions. The further you get into this level, the darker it gets of course, not to mention the mess.

    Good tight layout for commander mode.  The topright hive would seem to be much further off than the other two.

    Looks incredibly good, and i really like those notes, the only thing i can comment on is that the jukebox part, your not suposed to put ambience or music into your map <!--emo&:(--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':('><!--endemo-->

    Actually I think it's just music you can't put in. Ambience (such as the hum of a motor or something) is fine.

    Well it would be handy for the aliens if some Marine newbie switches on the jukebox and suddenly some kind of trance experimental music starts thumping. A dark bar with bar stools thrown all about the place and flickering lights (+ some neon signs i'm making) would make this place a nice spot for aliens to flock to and trap the funking marines in the little seedy bar.

    The other hives are also hard to reach since you have to get passed certain traps (the dormatories, showers, the fans, control room, computer rooms, airduct exits) things like that. And each hive has only 1 entrance.

    Ambience is encouraged actually, really adds to the map! Music I dont think so because they are including their own music already with the mod.
    Only problem I have with the layout, make it bigger! I was squinting trying to find all that stuff <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo--> (Not bigger layout, bigger PICTURE)

    Ok, here's a bigger version of the map. It's a tad more vague and I didn't add the legenda.

    I know that music is an issue, but I can come up with a simple beat and bass and stuff it in an mp3 that isn't even that big. Would be a nice addition, wouldn't it?

    That looks really good, Howling.  Here are my suggestions:

     1. Great tight design without dead-ends or unnecesssary areas.

     2. Ambience, ambience, ambience.  I think music wouldn't work out too well, as we are playing our own music, but give it a shot if you like.

     3. Generally, each hive room should have multiple marine entrances.  This allows flanking by both teams.

     4. I would suggest that you add impassable doors and hallway entrances around the outside of your map, suggesting that the ship is bigger then the area you can play in.  Most NS maps would benefit from this as well.

     5. The alien-only passageways you've added look great for flanking, but don't seem to be shortcuts for the aliens.  Maybe this is what you intended but you might want to consider some alien-only passageways that give the aliens much better connectivity.

    Well it's still early. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

    So it's multiple entrances oki no problem I'll have to add stuff then indeedee.

    And music is playing during play?
