    And what does this teach us, children?  MMORPGs are evil.  Good, all together now!

    "MMORPGs are evil."
    Good, again!
    "MMORPGs are evil.  Umm, how do you pronounce 'MMORPG'?" <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->

    I don't like that kind of games, if you want a free mmorpg go download runescape.

    Tycho, what're you gonna be? Me? Jedi. Of course. <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->

    I thought I read somewhere that there wasn't going to be Force, for the simple reason that *everyone* would want to be a Jedi?  How are they addressing that?
  • MoleculorMoleculor Namer-of-Bob Join Date: 2002-01-24 Member: 9Members
    That would suck. But I know the FAQ says that you can be Jedi. But that the path is 'long and difficult'. That's ok though, 'cause I always play mages, so I'm used to long a difficult paths. (Shoot, I wanted to be a dragon on Horizons... then the game became VaporWare. <!--emo&:(--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':('><!--endemo--> )

    See, that's the thing, though... they're marketing to people who have maxed out EverCamp characters at level 60.  People know how to play the waiting game, and are willing to do it, too.  The same problem existed with HZ Dragons... and as far as I'm concerned, they never really solved it.  I had planned on being a dragon as well, and I'd probably want to be a Jedi, too.  Although a Han-Solo-ish character is also really appealing.. I *loved* Privateer, and can't wait for Freelancer.

    Well, personally, I hope they make the 'path' REALLY hard, so people DO give up on it. I don't want hundreds of Jedi running around.

    I -also- hope that they make it so you start out as something else first, and BECOME a Jedi through quests or something.

    Maybe they'll make the path rather random and actually hard to find... so you do a seemingly unrelated quest, and then are approached by the Jedi council because you caught their eye.  That'd be sw33t.

    I hope it's REALLY random, or something. But there ain't no Jedi Council rememeber... unless they've taken 'liberties' with the universe, which I, and every other SW fan would KILL them for.

    nyuck nyuck. after grabbing the name tycho for my pilot ( to be played when they release the space expansion) im probably gonna start some sort of merchant with a store in a nice big town. when hes all rich like ill start an imperial something or other, whatever gets to do alot of fighting. if i ask other people and they like it ill be a jedi, because i know i will be able too, i just think it isnt worth the effort. and they better limit those doggies to like, one out of every 600 people. down with the jedi, i dont want some newb coming in and trying to be like luke skywalker. and making it. now we have a jedi who doesnt know what the "code" is. he thinks its the numbers he needs to raid the imperial base.

    current MMORPG's make me sick...which is why I plan on attempting to form a gaming company.

    MMORPG's have been given a bad name because they're mainly rushed and they're made to appeal to the "I wanna kill stuff!" players, as opposed to who they should be, the Roleplaying Players. The companies focus too much on money, and not enough on quality and enjoyment for the players. There should always be more for them to amuse themselves with than combat...Remember this, Roleplaying is completely taking on the Role of another creature, being, or thing. People Roleplay to take on the lives of something they respect or wish they could be, or that they find amusing to pretend to be, even if for a short while. I really wish the MMORPG companies would realize this..EQ..UO, they, truthfully, make me sick to my stomach.

    There is one fatal flaw in your logic.  I know many "roleplaying roleplayers" as virtue that I am a table top roleplayer at heart.  However most if not of those are more than happy with dice and paper RPGs (such as me) to bother with MMORPGs.  The reason why is that you scarifice many choices for the sake of graphics (have you ever went "why the spoon can't I do this!?  There's no reason why not?" in a game?  Come on, I know you have).  Maybe one day one can have total free will and graphics but that's not coming any day soon.

    that totally fits in my logic. A good MMORPG WOULD let you do that.
