Hello,I'm fairly new to NS(just came from CS).When I play CS,I get relatively good ping, around 60 or so.But now that I started playing NS,my ping is usually around 500 sometimes higher.I was wondering if this was a server thing or just a bug since this game is still new.

    Try some different servers.

Usually, even with my cable, I get pings reading out of about 150-200, when in CS I get about 60 or so.

However, with flayra's sexy netcode, the game runs fine.

So eyah, just try some differen servers. If you are wodering if it is you, the try typing net_graph 1 in the console, and seeing what the ping is in there. That's just the time it takes for packets to get there and back, not for the server to process them, so it should be lower.

I dont want to sound mean, but this shouldnt be on thenew player board.. It clearly belongs in the tech support forum

your ping will be higher in NS since it uses a lot more of your systems power... you can do many things to make it run smopother (see: tech support board - Pinned:"Help for low FPS")

    edit:

lower ping servers will help and all this could improve with patches.

Not really, its not really tech support. Don't worry with the ping optimus 99% chance that its just the server. Look around, and remember to list by best ping.

trying tweaking your net_graph like in cs... type Net_graph 3 in console
    use cl_cmdrate to start off.

cl_cmdrate (same as avg fps) default 30 keep tweaking til u see a steady ping that doesnt spike and u are basically trying to get ur green lines to stay as smooth as possible w/o any yellow

cl_updaterate lowers your choke default is 20 - keep raising this until your choke is 0.

fps_max = change max fps obviously - if u want more fps try going into your soundcard display settings by right clicking on desktop / properties / settings / advanced / (yours vid card) / additional properties / open gl settings / go to vertical sync and change it to off by default - this will MOST DEFINITELY increase max fps ur card allows (if vsync was enabled)

after done tweaking with that tweak with your rate settings in your console

type " rate # " and use test guess and check - keep raising it until your ping starts going higher then lower until ur settings are just right and your graph is as smooth as can be

other commands that can help are

mp_decals - mp decals is the time for decals to disappear (AKA blood / spray paints dead bodies , etc) default is 2000

thats basically all i can remember for now because i just got my g4ti4600 and i dont need to tweak anymore (+ my high speed internet ) cuz i just put everything on max and have no problems

    neways hope it helped

errrr... i dont mean it to actually look like that cl_cmdrate does not mean the same as avg fps what i meant was the number u put in after cl_cmdrate should be something close to your ping.. that is a good starting point

so just put in cl_cmdrate #

    fps_max # = maximum fps

rate # = 1000-4000 should be range for low connections 5000 up is good starting point for high speed connections

mp_decals 2000 (default is 2000) obviously if u want less time for decals to disappear use a lower number

not Ping i meant average fps ... sheesh im tired

but neways to figure out ur average fps type in
