So ... Is Natural Selection Balanced?

... And is it balanced in the way we'd want it to be to make the game as good as it can be?
I've been playing NS since it's release on servers with a comparitively high standard of play and played a number of clan games and the game as it is, is very straight forward and repetitive(don't get me wrong I love NS but...). Marines first move is out to a hive, phase gate up, turrets up, move on to other hive phase gate, turrets and they win unless a serious mistake is made. Or the aliens are faster and take the 2nd hive first in which case fades (with lerks umbra if it's even needed) wipe out the marines with ease. And that's it, it's a race to controling two hives.
The marines have to go for 2 hives because aliens have fades before they're able to have a hope against them, aliens need 2 hives to because lerks with 1 hive/skulks will struggle and fail if marines have a clue to re take a hive.
There's no alternate strategies to that, the games so centered around LMGs vs skulks because by the time upgrades are reached the games already decided. What I'd like to see is a fair contest between fades and marines (fades under umbra can take HA/HMG marines), heavy armoured marines with heavy weps vs onos (onos are no match for the HMG/HA at the moment) so that the game doesn't depend entirely on who gets the 2nd hive.
At the moment all we get is LMGs versus skulks, how great would it be to see HMG/HA having to face a pack of onos where it was all balanced.
It's not at all easy to balance a game like this and hats off to those who have put so much work into a great mod, I just hope you can somehow balance the game further. I think the only thing holding NS back from becoming really big is it's demand on servers.

It's just a matter of tactics, team-work, and the experience level of players.
Also depends on if the skulks rush or not.
I think the game is as balanced as it can be with the weaponory and such that is in the game right now.
