Little Unfair

<div class="IPBDescription">Healing</div> This or something similar has probely been posted before (im just too lazy to search and raed all the ideas on healing). What I find unfair is the way in which both sides heal. The Kharaa have 4 forms of healing them selfs (Hive, Gorge healing weapon, Defense chamber and regeneration) while the frontiersmen rely on medi packs. Granted the ailens have to retreat and find somewhere to heal while the comm. can heal a marine where he stands, but it doesnt cost the ailen a single resourse point while it costs the comm. 2 resourse points to heal 50 damage. 2 point isnt much but gather up quickly in a battle and 2 can suddenly become 10 or 20 (this is 5 to 10 men in a group) and some times it take more than 1 medi to fully heal a man. The marines r completely dependent on the comm for life. Lots of ideas have come up for healing stations, medi guns (sorta the same thing from TFC), or sub comm. being able to distribute ammo and medis.

    It's a balance. The marines can be healed anywhere, at any time, if they have to resources. Aliens can only be healed at hives, chambers, or near a gorge, or they have to spend the 2 rp to get regen.

    Not that a portable medpack dealy isn't an idea that's been tossed around a lot in the past, and has a chance of eventually finding some way into the game.

    Greedo is right, as usual. Only the hive or defense chambers can heal aliens. Oh and Gorges. But the chances of you having these in battle are slim. The Commander is always there, and health packs give back 50 health, whereas aliens must wait to heal.

    There should be some upgrade for some station that heals marines when they stand next to it so marines don't nag the comm for med kits when he's busy healing others or building structures, people get so annoyed of people asking they just tell them to kill themselves and not wast resources unless they have heavy armor.

    With aliens, if you die you'll probably have a long time to respawn--so you NEED healing. Also, replacing your character has a cost (except skulks, but skulks usually don't bother healing anyway). With the humans, unless you have heavy armor just kill yourself and respawn--there is no cost (even if you have a gun you can kill yourself in the base and pick up the gun after you spawn).

    That said, a station where you could go and get healed (maybe like 1 def tower) would be nice. Maybe it could be a structure marines build but limited to one per game? Just thinking out loud.

    I think no medpacks at base was quite intentional both from a balance perspective, and from a psychological standpoint. Having the ability to heal back at base WILL encourage people to run from the front lines when they get hurt a little, something you definately dont want happening.

    Thats an idea I didn't think of Typhon ;p

    I pretty much support a medical version of the armory (requires use, takes your weapon away while using it, leaves you vulnerable, is slow to heal) Maybe like 5hp in the time the armory gives half a clip of ammo.

    But I certainly dont want my marines always running home for healing, so if I need to keep them at the frontline I'll be using medpacks anyway.

    OR.. Make it so that once you have the medstation you can drop some portable medpack (give it the same slow healing rate of 5 per second) and maybe even make it take the primary slot if it is still too powerfull. That will give them some front line healing and make it a bit easier for marines to be able to manage without the fastest commander dropping medpacks everywhere, or marines running home to get healed.

    The current system isnt really bad for clan games, but people whine a lot more in public games ;p I'd like to see this a lot when playing pubs.

    Yeah portable medpacks may be a good thing, but eveyone will ask for it <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> I thought it could work like the C4 in CS, it'd be selectable as a weapon, you'd need to keep fire pressed to heal, and it'd run of like the med station in Half-Life.

    Just my point of view, anyway its still great as it is right now.

    if you have ha, then 50 medikit should last you along time with 5% dmg going to health only
    if you dont have ha, then it'll cost 1 res to respawn, and someone else to take your weapon

    blah, yeh?

    well the marines commander can spam health on marines while they are attacking a hive. that is unfair to me. plus med kits give a lot more health in one shot then any of the aliens health. and if you wanna get rid of the aliens def chambers build seige at every expansion because aliens will chamber rush you anyways and youll be screwed when a gorge is building OC'c in the middle of a captured hive and theres nothing you can do to stop him. Ah, chamber rushing is so sweet.


    oh yeh... i support portable med kits for the marines. maybe something that acts like regen for the aliens. possibly an upgrade somewhere.

    maybe a syringe you could carry around like a welder, filling the role of 'medic!' out in the battle field? not that I think there are any balance issues to fix, it just seems like itd fit into the structure of the game pretty nicely.

    I posted this before, I think the welder should work similar to alien regen. In this nanotech crazy world, why not have the welder heal first then repair armor. Maybe a slight increase of the welder cost would be necessary.

    I like the thought of a medic 'class', with a syringe or stim-pack taking up the spot of your pistol/welder. With a medic, a Heavy Armor team would still need a welder to keep their armor shiny, so I don't think it's TOO much of a balance-killer. Maybe make the pack cost 20 RPs. It'd certainly help out the LMG folks <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Or make a portable med station, you drop it by your armour and a marine picks it up, just like any other weapon and use's the pistol slot. But you can only fire it once, and it deploys a small medical station, which has little hp and a small range, but heals nearby marines at the same rate as a defence chamber (its like a portable defence chamber). Would require a model and animations, but would be a nice touch having a wee med bot in the front lines and maybe leave one in your base. They would have very little hp (a bit more than a marine with lvl 3 armour)
