Something Missing From Maps

I don't recall any maps having a landing/entrance point to where the marines must have came through.

Maps in NS just start in one place which do not have any point of access from the outside.

Maybe future maps marines should start off where they entered... Like a spaceship or a big entrance landing dock thingy.

    I think their are a few maps in development where the landing/boarding ships are visible.

    My 'readyroom' is going to be a dropship, which is currently docked on the platform just outside the building. You can even see the dropship on the platform from the marine start, and from other windows around the facility. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    At least, that's how it'll work <i>in theory</i>. I might still have to tweak the idea a bit.

    Well, on ns_hera, on your way to the Hera Reception area, you can look outside and see the landing pad.. and if you've watched the Natural Selection trailer, you'd see the marines walking in from there.. so that'd be the entrance you want. Also, on ns_nancy, the marine start, is actually a ship I think, that's docked. So that's another one for you. ns_bast, I have no idea. ns_nothing, maybe from those two open "elevators/doors" things in marine start. ns_caged, no idea. ns_tanith, no idea.

    In ns_bast, you start on the underside of a drop-ship I think. The big raised dias in the middle of the room is the lift into the ship. I could be mistaken, though.

    Hera's landing pad used to be accessible too, however, with the addition of the connector into cargo bay, the r_speeds got too high when looking from the pad into cargo, so merk cut it. It was really cool though, i encourage mappers to make things like this.

    I also have started work on a map that starts with the Marines landing on a planet surface in dropships. I have a talent for cinematic sequences with worldcraft (or I guess it's hammer now) so I'm hoping to apply it here. Of course, to be honest I also have a talent for not finishing maps but I like NS so much that I'm a little more driven than usual this time <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> Anyway, I'll post some pics in a couple weeks or so, right now I'm working on layout.

    Well, that will mean that the commander will probably be able to see into it.

    And on NS_HERA, you used to be able to go out onto the helipad outside the marine spawn. It was sealed off due to playability reasons (skulks, lerks).
