Question About The Nuke?

Some may find this topic pointless but curiosity has the better of me. I know some things about the nuke but the question I have is did it hurt friendly buildings?

I think it would not be so overpowering if it took a really long time to build and it destroyed marines and marine buildings equally as powerful as the alien buildings <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Speaking of that, anyone got an older version of NS that I can download and see how it worked?

I want to build one and stand there watching it go off <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> lol!

...... LOL! I can now see why they took it out! 2 people join the server, one grabs the comm, the other builds the nuke in spawn.... LMAO!

    heh...starcraft nuke....KABOOOOOOOOM!
    it would be a good early game life saver... but probably be overused in early game hive rush tactics

    In playtest versions of NS, the commander was able to drop nuclear weapons like health or ammo. Once placed, a nuke would detonate in about 30-45 seconds, causing massive damage to all aliens around it. This allowed commanders with a large number of resources to win the game instantly by nuking all three hive rooms, regardless of how well his troops were faring on the ground. There really wasn't enough time to balance this weapon, so it was just removed.

    As far as I know, the nuke only hurt aliens and alien structures. I don't see why a nuke damaging marine structures would help the game at all, as a commander would be a fool or a llama to drop a nuke anywhere near his base. And we really don't want either of those types of players in the command chair, to be honest. But if the nuke did hurt marines, it might be interesting -- combine that with another idea that's been tossed around, which requires marines to "build" or "arm" the nuke before it can be detonated, and I think there might be interesting gameplay. This would require teamplay on the marine side, since the marines who are arming the nuke have to be defended from aliens, then the nuke must be guarded to keep it from being destroyed. However, the marines would eventually have to abandon the site of the nuke to keep from being killed from the blast, which would give the aliens a chance to kill it before it goes off. The nuke must undergo quite a bit of tweakage before it'll go back into the game, but I think that might be a good start.

    Also, Flayra has not given us permission to give away playtest versions of NS, so you most likely won't get the chance to see any early versions.

    its useless to discuss this I know but the idea of putting a safeguard were you cant place the nuke close to the commanders chair would be a way to fix it so you cant destroy your own spawn with it. Kind of like you cant drop spawns outside the green circle, you can’t drop nukes inside the green circle kind of thing.

    I had not realized that all the commander had to do was drop it though! I had the impression that the marines had to build it as well. Good job taking it out then! That would be the sux <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> lol I kind of expected that the alpha versions would not be available <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    if someone wants to break the rules and get there butts kicked.... lol j/k

    a portable nuke with medium range would be cool, taking up the special slot (mines) and makes you move slow like you got the heavy armor on and maybe have it take 30seconds for detonation and a warning siren of some kind <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> for evcuation of the area

    100 res, takes 2 minutes to set up, and has a highly destructive blast radius.

    and then it woyld be never used b/c sieges would be a better option

    always

    2 mins is A LONG TIME, in order to hold a position like that you would need turrets, and then you might as well just use a siege

    It's a high-risk weapon for desperate situations.

    ats just the point, it isn't worth it

    for the smae amount of RPs you could have a siege turet

    remember JSUT how long 2 mins is in game

    I could understand like 30-40 secs probably (with nerfing ofcourse)

    if a squad of marines managed to stay alive for 2 mins inside of a hive room they could have probably killed it with LMG fire

    Acctually the nuke was fun to play around with. You had to gte a nuke plant, then research nukes. They beeped for 30-40 seconds, but they were structures also, aliens could destroy them in a few bites.

    huh, what was the range of the nuke plant (did you have to build out side of hive or in your spwn?)

    actualy it sounds sorta balanced, if it could be taken down in 2 chomps (mmmm toxic mmmmmm) and you had 1/2 a min to do said thing it dosn't sound that bad (specialy if it beeps)

    simple strategy would be to keep a skulk by marine spwn at all times and then let loose the yell "NUKES COMING UP" and make sure that a skulk stayed at each hive

    hmm 75+75=150 HP

    OCs do 22
    150/22 = ~8

    OC fires more then 1 per 2 secs
    30/2 = 15 secs

    1 oc could take one out <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
