Open Source Maps?

In software development there is the notion of open source. You develop a program and release the source code to the world. Then people can modify and improve what is there. If the license is GPL then anyone who modiifes the code is required to release the source to the changes to the world.

Taking that into account, would any mappers be willing to do the equivalent with the maps sources? Maybe this way someone can easily improve on a concept that already exists, or just add their own twist.

My 2c worth.

The problem with that is that anyone who takes such a long time to create a product of their own imagination is not going to give it out to be modified by just anyone unless they have no other choice.

Hey I put together a little zip package of my early ns work. Some ideas in the zip SHOULD be implemented, but many others shouldn't. As you get with most open source they are unfinished (Maps made up to about 4months ago). I hope you like my 'Discarded' work. If you download them and look the new mapping screenshots should be coming tomorrow, they are alot different from the files in the open source I have provided. (BTW None of the source .rmfs should be stolen but are given as an example. Chunks may be selected. Some of the textures I have used will not appear unless you download 'HanzGrubers' WAD pack)

[EDIT] Right Click The URL then select 'Save Target As' To Download [EDIT]
