So I've rented some GC games for my new baby and I thought I'd give you the rundown on some of them, quick and dirty, because I like to pretend my opinion matters and/or that people listen to what I say. I'm not delusional, i'm just stupid. Carrying on:
- Metroid Prime -
I love Samus Aran.
Wow. Really if you don't like this game, then I would hate to be you. This is of course the game I bought the system for, but nevertheless it actually EXCEEDS all expectations and hype present for this game and delivers not some FPS w/ metroid tacked onto the name, but actually a great game that is Metroid at the very heart and soul, with technology and the first person view helping, rather than hindering, the process of making what I do consider the best Metroid ever. Ingenious and terrific level design. Really a fine work of art. And the soundtrack, omg the soundtrack...
And also, it is LONG. Oh so long. Perhaps the longest game I've played since Half-Life SP, and for those that haven't played HLSP (shame on you), that's very long. And unlike HLSP, it doesn't get boring, ever. In fact, it just gets better and better the more you play. My only regret is that it'll all be over soon, and while replayability has always been a great factor of Metroid, and I know i'll replay this puppy for years to come, there's still nothing like the feeling of running through it for the very first time. I'm currently looking into inhalents or blunt objects to smash against my head to erase all memory of Prime from my brain, so that once I'm done I can play it all over again as a fresh experience! While I'm at it I think i'll wipe out Episode I & II...
Bonus Note: Metroid Fusion on GBA rocks too. Everything perfect about Super Metroid, plus more!
- Mario Sunshine-
I was a little doubtful when I rented this, particularly because I never played that much Mario 64 (didn't really care for it honestly), and was turned off by the cutesy nature of the game plus the sillyness ("Collect all the Shines"), but I gotta admit, behind the bright colors lies a very, very entertaining and just plain fun game. The water pack adds a new element to gameplay. And for those of you who talk about the water pack being dumb, just remember picking flowers to throw fireballs, getting a leaf to add a racoon tail, or getting a feather to wear a cape that lets you fly. So if in doubt, Mario Sunshine is definately worth a rental for you to try it out and see if you would want to purchase it, or recieve it as a Christmas gift.
- Mortal Kombat V: Deadly Alliance -
I'm old school Mortal Kombat. First one came out and I was there. I made arrangements w/ my mom to pick me and my friends up at Jr. High the very first day MK2 came out and we went to an arcade for about 4 hours of MK2 fest. So naturally I wasn't looking forward to this one at first after the UTTER AND COMPLETE CRAP that was MK3 and 4. But much to my suprise, MK5 is very, very good. Its definately on my Christmas list. After realizing their mistakes, instead of letting the series go to the crapper, they started from scratch and reinvented the series from the ground up. Cool stuff indeed.
- Star Wars: Bounty Hunter -
I got kinda interested in this one when I saw a video of it on Gamespot back during E3, and it look pretty fun back then. I don't know what happened between E3 and now, but STAY AWAY from this hunk of crap. Not fun in any way whatsoever I'm afraid. I think the first sign of my impending doom was when the guy behind the counter at Blockbuster was actually making fun of me for renting this game.
- Resident Evil -
Ah yes, the classic Alone in the Dark ripoff, remade with new graphics, but still the same horrible horrible control scheme that immediately turned me off to the first hunk of crap for the PSX. Now I know a lot of you are RE fanboys out there, so I'm not going to bother trying to argue why this game is bad, but to those who know why the others are crap, you can rest assured that this one is the exact same crap, only with more polygons.

You should really try out Super Smash Bros. Melee or Mario Party 4 if you can get a few friends together. And Pikmin is just *amazing.*
My one bone to pick with you is the review of fusion, IT SUCKED (Prime ofcourse just kicked more **obscenity** then possible)
look my points:

Linear, it just was there was nothing non linear about it

controll style, hold down R to use missiles? wtf?

Over use of missiles, meh just didn't make it interesting

It was basicaly a not to good RPG (linear, no varient on char, you just get 'better' as you go not more interesting realy

meh, basicaly it was a big disapointment, I would rather go and play super metroid again (hell probably even original metroid)
ok, honestly it wasn't THAT bad agame, it is just that for a Metroid game it sucked (I am a huge metroid fan, I am curently going through prime on my friends GC)
and an RPG?? WTF?? Metroid isn't an RPG. Why don't you say HL sucks for being a horrible RPG too? :P
as for RPG, what I was trying to say (and now that I look back, I said rather poorly)
basicaly it was the 'and now you go to section 6 here is where you have to go in secition six, you will have to do these things and you will get this weapon'
repeat adnauseum
alot of the 'fun' factor of metroid is the 'SW337, I got the ICE BEAM' or any other mod, in fusion it was the, ok now go get this weapon, ok now go get this one, now this one, this is next etc
I also think the game was sorta on the simple side, it lacked alot of the random crap you could to in SM
Iadmit I didn't get all the Etanks/missile ups etc but that was b/c they were so unnesesary (I though the game was sorta simplistic)
basicaly, it lacked all of the stuff I asociated with metroid, hell, circle of the moon was less linear (and more enjoyable despite the imposibility of getting some cards, blech)
however prime is EXACTLY what I was expecting (And more), Prime was non linear, and a much better controll system (I hate console FPS b/c I can't stand not having my track ball, but I still iked prime ;D), all in all what I would expect from a metroid game
as for super metroid > usion, I thikn I will test that (/me pulls out the emulator ;D)
of to go kill some space pirates
But I'm an atmosphere freak and love that type of stuff.
Nothing like running out of ammo when zombies jump through doors.
I like to kill *bleep*, I like to kill *bleep* GOOD!
;D hehe, thats all realy (wlel I also don't like the controlls but what ever ;D) to each his own ;D)
Primes soundtrack is simply amazing, and its worth getting even if your not a metroid fan. It's just...incredible.

You guys are making me cry ... I want Metroid Prime so badly I'm import it along with a US Gamecube just to avoid the March UK release date.

The controls are fine.
Once you get used to them!
And the second time I completed the game I had way too much ammo.
Please that wasn't useful
If you ain't got nothing useful to say, don't say it! (and anyway you can miss out on Metroid Prime if you want!)

I agree, RE's controls are fine, and i actually prefer them. Whenever i play RE games anymore, i have tons of unneeded ammo. I usually end up with 60+ shotgun rounds i don't need while playing RE2, even on scenario b.
Marion Sunshine I have in my collection and i sit on 56 Shines, gonna keep playing it soon.
Mortal Kombat I have never really been too ken on so I doubt i'll try that.
Star Wars Bounty Hunter I might have rented if I didn't know it was a cheap movie cash in
Resi Evil I throughly enjoy Code Veronica on the Dreamcast..... thats pretty much it.
the game realy is THAT GOOD
meh it does not matter PRIME = GOD!!!!!!!!!
