Most of the official maps took many, many months to make. I honestly don't think any of them took less than 3 months from start to finish.

Personally, I've been working on my map since mid-October. Though, I am loosely basing it on a previous, much uglier, and scrapped version of the same map which I began working on in late March.

I had this layout about 1.5 years ago...Scrapped it, and started it in Jan...and only 1 room done. I don't seem to be able to stick to it either...I need a layout I like...I need an artist to draw meh ideas....AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH.

I started my first ns map in march, and finished it in late june. And the map I'm working on now I started in late september and I expect to finish it in late January. So yeah, they take a while.

It's actually a bit embarassing, but ns_nothing took upwards of 6 to 7 months, from concept to final product.

Of course, not a 24/7, extreme dedication type of deal, but...

I have worked on Widow since Janurary. That includes a four month hiatus... the actual Widow you see now I probably did in about a few hours of actual hardcore work. I tend to chat, listen to music, play games, etc. while I map. Now I wonder why I go so slow. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

ya, but what really takes time is the finishing touch, what makes the map more living, breathing. and that takes time. having a good map layout (with good strategy capability) is also important. i say 5 months+ for magnificent maps.

Nirvana started its journey in late March and still has to do. The thing is that there have been entire months where i havent spent any time on it and some weeks of full production....

I was curious as to development times as well, so this thread kind of saves me from getting flamed to hell for double-posting.

I came up with my concept about 3 weeks ago, and have been occasionally scribbling flow layouts and room ideas in a (now very overused) pad of paper. I started doing up a somewhat more organized flow layout about 4 days ago, and that's about 70% done. I figure I'll be able to start actual map building in about a week.

That's not bad, I guess. A month to do concept, layout, and room/hive ideas. Although keep in mind that mine is <b>very</b> much a spare time kind of thing (<i>ie: maybe an hour or two once or twice a week and/or whenever an idea comes to me</i>). <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Heh, and my build time might take 6 months, where it'd probably take a dedicated mapper a few weeks. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
