<div class="IPBDescription">and here's why:</div>So I'm reading this new <a href='http://www.gamespy.com/previews/december02/csczpc/index.shtml' target='_blank'>GameSpy Preview of CS: Condition Zero</a> cause I wanted to see just how pathetic it is, when I catch this little interesting blurb that will apply to us all very soon:
<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->For CS and all Half-Life multiplayer games, this release will mark the introduction of the new launcher. Built on V-GUI 2.0, it replaces the now-very-dated system for server browsing, configuration setup, and starting a game."
Incidentally, the new GUI is similar to the one that will be used in Condition Zero. Looking a lot like a Windows-based desktop, instead of a "start" button, it will say "Counter-Strike" or "Condition Zero." From there, an assorted menu screen will pop-up where you can configure keys, audio, video, network, etc. "This is a lot cleaner and streamlined," laughs Johnson, "this has been a long time coming."
<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
( <a href='http://www.gamespy.com/previews/december02/csczpc/counterstrike.jpg' target='_blank'>Picture of new menu</a> )
While I must say, that menu is good looking compared to the old one (but still a far far far far cry from "useful" or "pretty"), but I'm afraid that a change like this, even as seemingly simple as it is, is gonna end up breaking mods. Now, Valve hasn't said this for certain, its just a feeling I have. After all, Valve has released patches before that broke every mod, I'm sure they won't think bad about doing it again.
Hopefully though, if the way the menu is customized by mod makers is anything similar to the current menu system then it will be quite easy for the mod team to release a small patch to make their mod work again with the new menu. Hell, if the thing uses an external file like the current menu does, the community themselves can make a patch for mods that may not be worked on anymore.
Now if only they'd make the engine itself better...

Or release the source...so we could bump map HL and put in real time lighting. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
HL Hater!
so you already knew about this one flay? goodie. So when, if you're allowed to say, how will the thing work?
Cmon now, I like NS and CS... am I the only one who does?
I'm going to love the new HL patch, however. I heard that when you ALT-TAB with the new patch it won't cut out your sound! Talk about a bug that should have been fixed long ago, but I'm not complaining as it will finally be fixed - thank god.
...real...time...lighting....
WANT IT NOW!!
i want to see the full detail of NS's Models! sob sob!!
(which according to squeal like a pig, would look as detailed as the renders....drool...)<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
