<div class="IPBDescription">Share your best stories here :)</div> Tonight, the marines had two hives in ns_caged, and we were pretty much screwed ... they had HA's, HMG's and GLs and all we had was skulks, and it was just a matter of time till it was over ... but another skulk and I snuck into ventilation past the guarding turrets and discovered that none of their turrets actually watched the hive area there and there was no seige turret... so I went gorge behind the wall and put a hive right behind their lines with some defensive towers... all of a sudden they're being flanked by fades and going wtf?! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> I couldn't believe we got that surprise hive up ... and some heavys actually walked right past us while we were sitting there waiting for resources to put it up and didnt even notice us! caged seems to lend itself to sneaky hive taking. A couple of weeks ago I sent a marine to the generator hive, which had been taken by the aliens. and I got him to build a turret factory and 2 sieges right behind the hive. There were fades coming and going and they didn't notice him until the hive started to die <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

It was a large 9v9 game, and we had been just begun getting ready to build the second hive, when HMG marines started appearing. Quickly, they put an end to our efforts to contain them in their own base- but instead of building resource towers or turrets, the ingenious Commander threw down HMGs and sent them towards our hive. At the first sign of marines approaching, our lone gorge (Suicidalfish, who is now in the [panda] clan) ran hell-for-leather to an unoccupied hive instead of building defenses. I thought it rather foolish at the time, but now I realize that it would have simply delayed the inevitable.

The slaughter was spectacular- we had several excellent skulks but eventually we were overwhelmed by a team of HMGs- and it took them less than 30 seconds to destroy the Hive. We congratulated them and said our "gg"s... suicidalfish had began the second hive almost exactly before the first was destroyed, so the dreaded endgame alien countdown did NOT activate.

Eight pairs of eyes watched breathlessly for the next agonizing 120 seconds as suicidalfish went about the business of building defense for the hive- with no resources coming in, he could only get two defense towers and the hive resource tower up, before a marine showed up...

We expected the game to end then, but defying all expectations, suicidalfish healsprayed/spit the marine to death, and then ran off as the second marine approached. We screamed uselessly at him to go back and protect the hive, but instead, he raced to the third hive and began construction there!

When he returned, again he showed his prowess and sprayed the marine to death. We began discussing seriously the possibility of a comeback, and since us dead players had NOTHING else to do, we organized our strategy- we would ignore build up and RUSH their base while the marines were out searching or approaching us. We started counting down and wishing each other good luck- most of us complete strangers to each other. "Here we go..." someone said tersely as the first "REIN" appeared on the scoreboard.

As soon as each of us hit the ground, we were running, climbing, crawling our way to the marine base, each of us finding a suitable hiding spot to wait for the others. As soon as one ran in, we all horded the place.

We couldn't believe it when the command console was destroyed. We had turned what was a 30-second-to-death inevitability into a full-blown overwhelming victory. The rest of the game was, as they say, history.

To suicidalfish, (and in the second game, sloe and kane who pulled off the exact SAME thing), I salute you.

Once, we were about to lose, so I hid in the vents and evolved into fade and took out a base from there...then we lost...er...nevermind

We had only one hive, marines had HMGs but no HA, they attacked our only hive and basically slaughtered everything around it in a matter of seconds.

Me and another skulk ran off to the generator hive and hid under the floor thingy there, fortunately the marines have yet to build anything at that hive. So i said i would be a Gorge and that other guy would cover me as i saved resources... Eventually the marines came and killed the other guy, so i was left alone, i hid behind the big pipe thing next to the hive and built a new hive

..... then we went to secure another hive, and we had fades, we attacked the other hive and we had 3 hives

imagine, from the brink of defeat to 3 hives...

There was one time that I was playing on caged, an 8v8 as the alien side. The marines started justing and got a phase gate right outside our hive. Seeing this, a good number of the alien team just gave up. It quickly went to 7v4, and I was certain we were going to lose. However, me and another skulk just delayed them every second that we could while our one gorge went to put up a hive, as we were getting resources somewhat quickly due to the resource imbalance.

Well, we managed to hold off the marines long enough for that hive to go up. The other two players died, while I managed to get away and sneak a couple of resource towers up before a marine found and killed me. The gorge just focused on defenses, as he was getting a monstrous amount of resources with everyone but we two dead. Just as I died, I hit the scoreboard button and noticed that the hive was up and a player respawned.

Well, the marines had the hive that they just took pretty well locked down, so I went over to sewer and found it lightly defended. By this time more people were trickling in and it went to 7v6 or so. To make a long story short, we took the sewer hive and started to attack the marine team. We did pretty well, too. The only problem is that when we cracked open the CC, we noticed the last marine didn't die. He had went over to our hive and put up inf portals just as we finished at their base. Not just inf portals, but there was a full base at our original hive, complete with observatory and arms lab and turrets and whatnot.

We went to attack there, and though the fighting was hard, we started to take them down. During this, the comm used distress beacon and had his marines respawn at their original spawn to build it back up. I wasn't there for that, but there were a pair of fades there, covering a gorge builder. They managed to kill all of the disoriented marines, and we took down the obs so it couldn't happen again.

At the very end I could barely believe that we'd won. I marked it in my mind as one of the craziest games I'll probably ever play.

Picture it, ns_tanith. About 8 on 8. The match had been back and forth, control of the reactor room being thrown around all over the shop and also of cargo area.

We had two hives, our skulks prowelling around. They had ha and hmgs to boot. Most of the main battle was taking place in either cargo storage or the reactor area control flinging back and forth untill they got siges in the cargo storage and sieged are first hive to hell. We soon realised withouth fades we could not stop them, and no one could make the dash to the siege without being gunned down or having a marine teleport in as there was constant traffic.

A hive down, we all run to sat comm, our last hive. Talk off hitting F4 in the team was growing fast. Realising yes we probably where **obscenity** to hell i thought well lets go fighting and done a lone rush on their respawn.

As often is the case, they had so much army and heavy weapons but miminal defences and i ran past the through turrets and started munching on their cc, all was going well then the comm got out, i felt it was time to make a dash and tried to get out was mown down. Upon respaw when talk was still going on i pointed out to everyone the damage i had done and a huge skulk rush took place. A few minutes later....opps no cc.

Within no time we'd lost a hive, thought it was all over then turned the game totally around. Unfortunately i got server endgame in the console and was uable to rejoin but i feel that we would have gone on to win as the spawn portal rush had already begun.

Another classic was this time on caged. w00t.

The classic marines where mauling the crap out of us we had started in the sewers but where soon pushed way back to another hive, basically we had one, they had another. Things whre looking pretty damn desperate specially having already lost a hive, pretty much simulatneously as another was bought up, moods where low. But we bloodi well battled back. One by one marine positions where cleaned out till we got to our hive. And soon well fades.

All of a sudden this bottleneck they had on us was just gone, we where so sure we'd loss, the marines where just closing in everwhere but some great skulking saved the day so we could get another hive.

2 hives, me and another 2 fades soon cleared out another one and then marine position after marine position untill they where left in respawn, their casuaties where huge, we didn't die once, any of the 3 but we destroyed everything and they where in a lot of places.

We stood at the entrance to their respawn, celerity and regen helping me along. Out acid rocket in, 3 of us so they didnt know which way to look and any one who tried to get near us was just hcaked down or acid rocketed. Celerity was great, just ran in hacked a lot of turret than ran out healed up whilst the other two dudes totally covered my arse and so forth till we had no tf to worry about we charged in for the spawn ports.

This was when i died, when a marine spawned dodged the hordes of claws and got off a few shots to finish me off but a great turn around and the 3 fades including myself where just loving the massacre.

woshoofoo: I thought you couldn't build defenses without a hive?

anyways, here's my best comeback story. Our team was doing pretty good, but for some reason we couldn't push the marines back, they just kept coming. We had our second hive building, but it got sieged and we lost it. We kept assaulting the two taken hive locations, but the comm was good, he kept them healed, full of welders, and phasegates up.

In desperation, my friend says "Screw this guys, lets just go take out their base". And miraculously, they listen. EVERY single skulk on the team meets up outside their base. we had just attacked a hive location, so they were busy rebuilding it and welding stuff. Once everyone was ready (even my as a gorge), we rushed it. It was a 9 on 9 game I'll never forget. 8 skulks, with carapace, rushing into the marine base. There was one or two marines in there, and it must have been quite the surprise.

As a gorge, I spammed heal spray everywhere, healing as I could. I had dropped a D chamber outside while waiting for the last skulks to get there. So, if I wasn't healing a skulk, he'd run out to the chamber and get healed. Inside, I spammed offensive chambers all over (didn't bother build them), as I had saved 100 res for this (while waiting again... we had lots of res, just no hive locations). So, most of the turrets were plinking away at the O chambers next to them, instead of the skulks. First thing we did was take out the phase gate, so all the marines would be stuck at the other hive. It took us a few seconds to take it out, so a few marines phased in (and died in a hundredth of a second to 8 raging skulks). Phase gate down, we munched the spawns. Spawns gone, we munched the TFactory, then munched the command chair. A few more marines made the run back, and died to my O chambers that finished building by then, hehehe.

Once their base was wiped out, we just rushed the two taken hive locations looking for the last marine. Sure enough, he was in a command chair trying to get up a spawn. But we chomped it in no time, and the game was ours.

THAT was a damn fine game.

    You can't build defenses without a hive, but existing defenses keep working. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

I tried to get a hive up on ns_nancy the other day after the countdown had started. I ran to the nameless hive and hopped on our only defense chamber, thinking maybe if I camped there, I could save enough to build a hive. It didn't work. I think if we'd had 2 defense chambers there, it would have been enough. 3 probably definitely would have been enough. Anyway, it kept me alive for a while. I was up to 40 when I finally succumbed to cold.

Back in 1.1, we played a round on ns_nothing - the first for many players on the server, including me. The game progressed much as normal, with Kharaa taking 2 (power silo? and great viaduct? not sure on names, it is easily my least played map) hives, and Frontiersman the other (engine room?). After probably 40 or so brutal minutes of melee throughout the middle of the stage, marines managed to take and hold great viaduct.

Forced back to one hive, we tried to take great viaduct and failed. Eventually, the marines turned their focus upon our last remaining hive. Completely desperate, and unable to do a thing against HA/HMG marines, I started rushing the command chair. On the first rush, I took off half its life. By the time was able to get back to the chair, it was at full. However, I got some other people to also rush the chair. Finally, marines killed our hive and we stopped respawning.

However, our lone remaining player was a gorge. Marines quickly evacuated our hive, to go worry about other things - probably looking for our last player. It was at this point that our last player moved under the hive, and started saving up. A marine jumped up to the hive, completely missing our last player, and paying for it with his life. Then, our player started the hive. A few minutes later, 3 marines walked into the hive and started shooting at it, with our player hiding behind a wall, underneath the hive. Eventually, one of the marines hopped up to begin knifing - again missing the gorge beneath him. He also paid for his error.

Then the marines left. ?!? We all respawn, and begin to attack. It isn't too much later that one of the players on our team finally mentions that they got the chair.

    Game Over, Marines Lose.

on thanith i was a skulk,as usual spying on my enemy's and looking for weak guys and got my butt kicked as motion tracking proved it's lameliness.we were waiting for our death, some guys where wondering why there was a giant p*ss* on each hive and some tryed to reach it.i noticed a skulk going in a vent and i followed him to a...........ungaurded hive!!!!!!!it was amazing, the enemy luckily didn't had HA then so whe risked it,the skulk evolved to gorge and started building a defensive perimeter and some nearby res towers assured our financial stabilitywe builded a secod hive unnoticed.then one of the guys said that he had a hallucination cause he had 44|66 res.we evolved in lerks and fades and as the marines who walked unarmoured in the corridors shouting, lets keep a barbeqeu!!!!
suddenly the first kills started to appaer on my right side of the screen and a marine typed:FAAAAAAAAAAAADE!!
we pretty much kicked their **obscenity** and all their outposts fell one for one till we reached the last hiveroom.we used OCs as support to siege them nd acid rockets flyed everywhere, eventually they fell and the dominion of the Kharaa on thanith was assured..........but for how long?<!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->??

I still think instead of the slow inevitable death, all enemy players should show up through on the HUD when the last CC or Hive is down. It actually <b>adresses</b> the problem of loosers hiding in vents <i>without affecting gameplay in any other way.</i>

Yeah, maybe only if they have Scent of Fear (for Kharaa) or if there is even a single observatory built (marines)

I decided to register just to share my awesome experience a few hours ago in Ns_Caged ^^

When I joined, it became an 8v8 battle which was pretty normal. Our main hive was in the sewers and the rines had made way to generator. They were still on LMG and had phase linking all their expos which was on the generator side of the map.

Me and the other skulks simply kept harassing them before the ventilation hive was upafter around 10 mins. A short moment after the hive was up, two of us skulks (I think it's two) gestated into fades and they began attacking the main marine base before our vent hive was 'under attack'. I was unable to morph to a fade then because I just contributed to 'build the hive fund'.

Immediately, some of us including me began to panic. I took the vents through pumping room 2 to ventilation and realised they had actually a full-fledged base linked with phase. I died trying to take down marines there.

Some of us began to tell the fades to head to ventilation to save the hive and after that I respawned, attempting another go to take down the ventilation expansion. It failed; there were at least 6 turrets there covering the turret factory, siege and the phase gen. I died again, along with others, and with my obs view I cycled onto a fade who was still alive and saw... he was still harassing the marines' base.

Me and a friend of mine called neko began to vent my anger on that fade who was alive, shouting for him to get back to the vent hive. When I was alive, I made my way through pumping station vent again but a skulk was trying to move back to sewers. Apparently he had just spawned from the ventilation hive and was escaping, and he blocked my way. I had to give way, so i went back a little, and I began scolding him for not helping to harass the sieges before the fade arrived to help.

A few of us urged gorges to get 3 movement ASAP before the hive died. Very sadly... I died again and thus my view went on the fade again... and <!--emo&--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='mad.gif'><!--endemo--> he was lost!!! He was actually moving to the generator. The ventilation hive deflated. We had only one movement chamber in the sewers.

Everyone was like, okay... so we only have one hive left, wanna f4? None of us hit that button though, and our sewer was exceptionally well defended. We had 2 layers on the vestibule side and another 2 layers at pumping station. Also, we had all the other resource points the marines did not have which gave us alot of money, but nowhere to spend it on. We thought it was impossible, but we tried.

Neko was constantly harrasing the ventilation expansion by shooting from the hive while the rest of us attacked the marine base with skulks and managed to take down a few of the <!--emo&::sentry::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/turret.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='turret.gif'><!--endemo--> s. It was terrible, marines were all going through phases, killing as many of us while we took them out, engaging them in attrition.

One thing was the resources. Some of us claimed they had sieges in base, others didn't, but one of the gorges finally made DCs in the sewer-marinestart vent and we realised they did not have DCs. Therefore, we managed to establish a forward on the sewer side of the marine start as well as blocking of the walking path to generator. Since the marines did not walk to generator (they took phase), we managed to surround the marine start.

In my alien POV, I morphed to lerk twice and kept harassing the marine start like anything before they sieged our buildings on the generator side, leaving us on only one forward. Neko reported killing a turret now and then, complaining about the slow regeneration he had. He also complained about having only 1 point of andrenaline. The marines buffed their defences in their main by placing 3 turrets at the entrance and more in the interior, making it impossible to enter the base and leave it alive. We had incredible amounts of surplus resources in our resources pool in a very short while.

Soon, Neko reported the TF in ventilation being dead. He sure is good <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->, with hope, I set out to generator which did not have a siege. A forward was established in the aux gen and me (a lerk), with a skulk and a gorge began to harass generator while the rest of us were either harassing the main base or harassing ventilation which had no TF. We NEARLY managed to win generator back by me morphing to a gorge after I died and making OCs in the generator itself with a skulk supporting me. It failed terribly as by then, the marines had their HMGs. I had go return to becoming a lerk and harass. I managed to survive for a very long time and for quite a while, our whole team was all lerk except for one gorge!!!

I'm not sure how those people in ventilation managed but somehow we got our vent hive UP! Apparently they lost their siege and the phase there and we seized the vent!!! The moment we had 2 hives, my resource shot from 33 to 66 and I changed to fade from lerk and it shot back to 66. I made a comment and another guy said the same thing happened to him <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->. Continuing harass generator while the vent hive constant gave a 'under attack' warning. HA/HMG/Welder marines fought me, but thanks to blink and the long hallway of generator, they did not kill me as I had DCs healing me.

I killed those armed rines, then with the help of a skulk who lured the attention of the turrets, generator was defeated. We nearly thought we had won when something happened... one marine with jetpack/HMG broke ran through the sewer defences and lay wasted our sewer hive (Ouch). This was terrible. When I tabbed - more than of us aliens were DEAD/REIN. I decided to morph to a gorge from fade and I built a hive immediately with my res before the vent hive went dead. A marine laughed like mad and exclaimed on how he killed TWO hives on his own.

I immediately threw down OCs haphazardly in the generator, hoping to impede the jetpacking marine before he arrived and killed our gen hive, meanwhile, the sewer hive went was rebuilt again by a gorge still alive there, and the marine arrived at the generator. A deafening barrage of acid balls shot into the air while the jetpacking marine strafed our building generator hive. I switched to my acid as well and gave one shot after another in hope of stopping him before he killed the hive... voila, it worked!!!

Then the sewer hive was dead again because another marine killed it. This time, the vent hive AND the sewer was rebuilt, vent first! One thing to note was that it was only around 5 seconds after the sewer hive died that it was rebuilt again hehe (Yeah we sure had ALOT of res, that's 320 resources on rebuilt hives already)

Once our gen hive was done, I spammed defence chambers all over generator and... ended up with only 50 res. Looks like our pool was running out. I made my way to stability to find it already secured, but I dropped more OCs and DCs there. I wasn't sure what happened after that, but apparently everyone respawned and it was 'mass fade time'. This time, we finally managed a breakthrough and defeated the marines with quite alot of ease because they ran out of resources without having more RTs.

It was the first game I saw a whole slew of lerks pull off a swing, first game I saw 3 hives rebuilding at the same time and unability to drop an OC, first game the game depended on 2 gorges that were alive while 3 hives were building, and the first game won from having only 1 hive <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo--> Lerks own. The longest game too, around 1 hour. Sure, both sides made ALOT of mistakes, but the aliens were truly very lucky to pull through. The elation in the alien team was IMMENSE when the game ended.

To suicidalfish, (and in the second game, sloe and kane who pulled off the exact SAME thing), I salute you.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

The best combacks are always on NS_nothing!

    Anyways heres my story.

We started in the cargobay hive. 9v9. The diligent marines led by T|dom Box made quick work into the powersilo hive as we foolishly suicide rush and died in their main base. So our gorges decide to station themselves in the viaduct. Little do they know, the marines are already making their way from the omnious kismet to the viaduct. After putting up the hive, one of our skulks heard the sound of welding and the noise of phase gates. He soon alert us of the intrusion and we, being as a rather well rounded team, destoryed the marine outpost and soon went back to our merry way in securing viaduct.

When our second hive was up, we had about 3 gorges whom went fade soon after building 3 movement chambers. One skulk said that he heard building near the viaduct. So we went around the whole area without finding any marine movements. 1 minute after, we heard the booming of the siege cannon. It took out everything in viaduct and its surroundings in less than 2 minutes. We realized that the sneaky marines have built an outpost in the vents near viaduct and our lerks boost the fades into the vents and soon desotryed the base. However, our hive was lost and we sent another gorge there only to find out there was already a marine base there.

By the time we realized two hives were lost, I thought to myself, all this time and what are they doing in the powersilo. So I began my journey to the powersilo and skulked my way on top of the powersilo where there are 3 ledges overhanging the marine infested hive. As many of you might have guessed, yes I evolved into a gorge and build defense towers on top of the ledges and then continue my evolution into a lerker. First I went for the phase gate, being careful to stop whenever a marine comes into the phase gate.

While I was working on the phase gate, the marines are advancing into the generator room and to our cargobay hive. Our team have realized we are lost and began brew desprate strategies for the eager marines. One gorge (forgot his name) miraculously made it into the room right before the marine start and began to build a wall of lame. Without him pestering the omnious commander, I dont think I would have destoryed the phase gate and turret factory in powersilo and then began the construction of a hive. As the wall of lame near marine start grew, more and more of our teammates took refuge in its warmth and we soon abandoned the cargo bay as we hear the count down. As luck might turn out, the marines were too busy in the destruction of our hive and didnt took note of their base and the growing WOL soon over taken the marine start.

However, the commander was no nOOb. T|dom Box soon built 2 command consoles in viaduct and over 6 respawn portals and well over 15 turret and 8 sieges( I guess for fun since he thought he have won). He thought wrong. Little did he knew that the powersilo hive is already half done and I instructed my companion lerker not to bite the remaining buildings before I put defenses up (It alerts the commander). At that point there were only 2 <!--emo&::skulk::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/skulk.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='skulk.gif'><!--endemo--> 2 <!--emo&::gorge::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/pudgy.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='pudgy.gif'><!--endemo--> and 1 lerker. The marines in cargo bay, being eager beavers, destoryed and left cargobay without building any defense in them. After the marine start base were over taken, that same gorge buidling the WOL went back to cargo bay and reconstructed the hive, as the marines thought they were going to go alien hunting. He was a master of evasion, how he did it, I did not know. I on the other hand, decided to pay viaduct a visit after the hive and fortifications in powersilo was complete.

I went back to a skulk and walked right on top of that catwalk above viaduct and saw there were no sieges on top of the ladder. Since I knew for a fact, sieges on the recess of viaduct cannot reach the catwalk above it, I began evolving into a gorge and built a WOL. However, at this point the marines cought wind of the reconstrution of the cargo bay and began massing their units to it once again. Soon after the completion of my wall of lame in viaduct, the hive in cargo bay was destoryed. I then evolved back into a lerker and begain to hail spikes on any marine trying to climb the ladder from the recess. It was simply amazing how many marines I killed while I was pestering viaduct. My score was like 66/12 (cant remember exact number).

Because the marines lost their start point and lost access to many resource nodes. The commander soon find it hard to equip his marines with jetpacks as most of them die anyway if they tried to fly up to the catwalk. Within the next 40 minutes, we keep rebuilding the hive only to find marines destoryed it every 10 minutes. We have built the hive at least 5 times. But after our skulks took out the phase gate near the entrance to the vent going to cargobay, it became took longer and longer before the cargo bay hive is destoryed. It was because that little marines could barely get out of the viaduct because I was spiking everyone that tries to get through. Some of those who did get through only to found my diving bite on their backs.

On our sixth attempt in getting the cargo bay hive up (the marine were constantly firing thru the vent and destorying it). There were 6 marines out of 8 (one was commander) shooting at the catwalk, trying to kill me. I guess it brought time because right after the 6th hive in cargobay died, we had 4 fades up. And you all know how easy it is for fades to kill thru that vent with acid rocket. We made sure our 7th hive didnt get destoryed. However, I was slained right around that moment by a wild grenade and I had to pleasure to spectate the marines screaming as the acid rockets bites thru their armor. Because of the marines have only 1-2 resource towers, they weren't able to equip themselves. And the rest is history. This game took like 2 hours. kudos to all the Kharaa!

We start in Eclipse Command, I gorg up and head for Power Sub Junction. The skulks are doing a pretty good job of harassing the marines on the left side and parasiting them, so the marines opt to go for Maintainence hive. I cap PSJ and move into Computer Core, cap it. I hear the marines are expanding to South Loop and that there is a Phase Gate at MA, so I go for Station Access then start saving for the hive, but Marines are getting base up outside it.

The skulks don't manage to drive off the Marines from Computer Core, and there's a siege up. However, Marine Base is all but defenseless. All the skulks except one (aLFa) starts attacking Computor Core as a diversion, while I an aLFa head into Marine Base. No turrets there, so I get two OC's up at the Phase Gate. Once they are up the COM spots us, and some marines appear through the Phase Gate. We manage to kill them and the Phase Gate off before too much reinforcement arrives though, and make short work of the Marine Base.

COM has set up new CC and IP's outside Computer Core however, and now they are moving out towards Eclipse Hive. We manage to defend it with skulks, but they are keeping the pressure on. I sneak off to Maintainence Access as a skulk and jump down below the hive and hide. Once again all the Skulks Start attacking Comp Core as a diversion, while I get 8 DC's up under the hive location. When the DC's are up I start the hive, get up to ground level, and start building OC's inside the Marine Outpost. At this time I am calling for skulks to help me and some arrive, but not many, most are dead from attacking Comp Core.

My backup gets killed pretty quickly and it gets a *bit* hectic fending off the Marines attempt to save their outpost (get about 5 healspray kills here ) But the hive is up almost up!! The outpost is killed, but marines are now setting up siege at South Loop. The skulks fail to kill it, but the hive goes up and a few manage to go fade before the hive dies from the siege.

We're now getting over-confident and try to attack the Marine Base at Comp Core. The result, all Fades die. Insert an hour of grisly fighting. We manage to get Maintenance hive up *again*. This time we have enough resources to let almost everyone go fade, however, while most of our team is gestating the Marines once again take Maintenance back. This time they fortify it well and get siege up, re-take will be hard. However, a few skulks have been hitting the Marine Comp Core base regularily and it is looking weak.

Fades gather up and hit Comp Core base with gorg backup, and we manage to take it. Once again a hive goes up. Fades haven't been very effective so far since we've never had time to get more then one movement chamber up, but this time we get a breather and people finally get their adrenaline upgrade. Marines have once again relocated, and Maintanence is their new base. After some fighting we manage to get two heal stations up outside siege range and start hitting it.

We spend a good 45 minutes or so attacking the marines, they have HMG's and GL's, so we're not making much progress. One jetbo gets through and almost manages to weld one of our hives, but we get him just in time. After that it seems like the back of the marines are broken. We have them locked down and we have enough resources to re-Fade immediatly when we die, Marines just don't have enough resources to keep themself equipped all the time (but lvl3 LMG's still hurt). It's just a matter of time though, and soon enough the Fades manage to move in in destroy the last Marine outpost.

Ps. Sorry if I missed something or didn't give an accurate description of events, this is how I recall it in my drowsy state.

That's crazy. That would simply make a comeback IMPOSSIBLE. The only way the current comebacks work is because people manage to hide on or around D chambers and sneak new hives up. Your way would obviate that and make comebacks completely impossible.

After browsing the forums for quite some time, I figured this would be the best place for my first post to occur.

    Map: ns_eclipse

We start the round, and the server numbers had been fluctuating up and down, but the teams were usually 8v8 or 9v9, and the kharaa had shown a marked lack of teamwork, and NO ONE was paying attention to each other, even when we were calmly explaining the reality of the situation. Well, after 2 rounds of getting horribly beaten, I and one other player calmly asked, "Who's tired of losing?" Everyone chimed in, threw in the 2 cents, and we came to a consensus that we'd actually work together. Well, the round started, we'd determined I'd be gorging using a particularly effective strategy that I rely on, and everyone else would skulk rush.

We started in Maintenance, and I said a mental "We're done for" because for the last 4 rounds, it was the first place the marines had been rushing to before anything else. I pushed that to the back of my mind, and said "EVERYONE RUSH HARD AND FAST" as I gorged. Our skulks had initial surprise on our side, because the 'rines had yet to see an organized rush from our team. It was give and take in the beginning, I got my first res tower and def chamber up, and then everything went to hell--or so I thought. I casually hit tab and saw that someone who had just joined had gone gorge, effectively slowing down my building. We'd had the exact same problem in the previous rounds where we'd lost--people not paying attention to what was best for the team. Well, I threw up my hands and decided I'd do my best with the res available.

I waddled into the Computer Core, and set up my res tower there then began saving to get the hive up. As I reached 50 on my res saving, I asked the other gorge what he'd been doing (thinking that he'd been like the other gorges just randomly dropping off chambers at useless points on the map) and he said "Saving at eclipse". I just shook my head and laughed thinking that the 'rines would take care of him eventually, and I watched my res crawl up past 70. Well, at this point, the 'rines began to attack maintenance in earnest, and everyone's like "GET BACK TO THE HIVE GORGES AND BUILD DEF AND OFF CHAMBERS" and I got on voice comm, told them not to worry about it and to keep attacking the 'rines. They probably thought I was crazy as I started the Comp Core hive, but the other gorge stayed put as well.

As maintenance went down, Comp Core was 3/4 of the way done, so our skulks were getting dejected as they died saying "We lost, gg marines" and I just laughed. As the third skulk told the Marines they'd won, Comp Core came online, movement chambers went up, Off and Def chambers had secured the hive from pesky lone marines, and I warped to Eclipse to set up off and def right as it came online. The marines began rushing Comp Core, but the stacks of Off and Def towers kept them at bay until the skulks spawned, and then the skulks started laughing. As the skulks started pushing at the marines, they started seeing HA and HMGz more and more, so I went back to comp core to make sure everything was secured. After a couple of waves of our skulks, the Marines were laughing and tried to secure Eclipse--only to find that our first skulks were evolving to Fade/Lerk groups and hunting 'rines down one by one. What had less than 4 minutes early appeared to be another easy rout for the marines had turned into one of the most one-sided comebacks I'd ever seen--in any game.

As our fades and lerks got on a roll, we gorges capped every open res point, then requested the fades drive out the marines at Maintenance. The marines had never bothered with siege turrets after Maintenance went down, and we headed right in. At this point, the second gorge saved for maintenance, and I was backing up our assault teams at maintenance by dropping def chambers outside for quick healing. Eventually the phase gate and turret factory went down in maintenance, and the fades destroyed everything in sight. So Maintenance went up and the real fun began. We had the 'rines pinned in their base, so we decided to have fun with them. Two of us saved, and went onos after erecting def chambers just around the corner from the 'rine exit. At this point we had 1 gorge, 2 onos, 4 fades and a lerk--all sitting happy outside the marine base w/ the fades/lerk harrassing the rines. We waited for a while as the marines tried breaking out, and when we finally thought they'd gotten a taste of their doom, we all rushed--even the gorge.

As the last marine died, all they could say was "WTF?! we killed your hive in the first 10 minutes..how did this round last 45min?"

we were on ns_nothing, and playing as marines (yes this is an alien survival story!), we took two hives, and a brilliant comm had kept the game going a long time. then as we were seiging the last hive, disaster - a skulk rush had taken out the CC, and no more comm!

well me and the displaced comm gathered the troops for an assault and we headed out with LMG's to the last hive, and almost took it on the first try, but soon we died and instead of waiting at spawn and then pushing again, we went out in dribs and drabs, a big mistake, they fortified the hive and it was too much. soon the phase's stopped working and we knew we were in trouble, and then the scream's of onos out of the dark confirmed it, for us it was time to die. the game was i reckon about 30-40 seconds from ending in victory for us TWICE, and twice the aliens didnt lame and go F4, they stayed and fought, and fought well.

We had been battling one Commander for 3 maps straight now (and hed almost consistently lost, he was so hell bent on moving/relocating his base to a hive that we simply ate up the CC with no resistance, then hunted down the stragglers, EVERY time we would end the game in under 5 minutes, yet he persisted with his tragicly inept strategum, It was borderline pathetic. Untill finally the marines were tired of losing, a different comm raced to the chair. Now we had trouble. This guy knew his stuff. Hed been consistently dying, and he knew what not to do. He firstly secured base. A few turrets, and the skulks were kept at bay, long enough to have a marine squad move to an empty hive (Waste, we had spawned in at Fusion) Our skulks were on constant harrasment duty, and our gorges were busy with res. We managed to get to satcom, only to see marines try to setup shop there, no good, we killed em before they had a foothold (a turret factory is about all that was dropped)

All the while we had marines constantly pouring into fusion to try and kill the hive. Which they left after many deaths, and resolved to siege from Cargo. We just managed to setup SatCom when their sieges start to open up into our fusion hive. We try any desperate bid to stop it, but no good, they manage to kill our hive, just as satcom comes online, maybe 1 managed to fade. Now we are getting hammered, they move onto SatCom and start a real offensive, the chambers in the forward area manage to delay them some, but its no good, they are constantly attacking us. Then on a skulk patrol I find them building a siege base in the little backdoor to SatCom. I Scream for support, we manage to take out a turret factory and turrets, but the marines come back hard and fast, with HMG's. No good, We lost that area, and they setup 2 sieges (The nearby wall of lame would buy us some time till we could get another hive up) So off I run to waste, and see another skulk there. We rush in, and take down its minimal defence (Obviously it hadnt been touched so the comm never bothered to defend it) We manage to eat up the turret factory, when in phases a marine, we die, and then try to get all skulks to rush Waste. We get there and finally manage to clear it out, and send a message for a gorge to come, We get the hive up and more of us manage to Fade, I didnt have the res, and we lost SatCom soon after. After 2 relocations, we really have to play smart, So for the four fades, I Battlegorge, And heal em as they take out Cargo (I think Satcom hive gave us Movement chambers, and I think 3 were put up in Waste, not sure, but for waste, we grabbed defence chambers) so im healsprayspamming our fades, as they remove the siege base from cargo. Another gorge locks it down with offence chambers at the doors, and we set about making a hive. We manage to get the hive up and running, and we can all breath a little easier now. we have a mass fade assault on the marine base, but its a hard nut to crack. We resolve to split up and have some clear out satcom while the rest keep them contained. Soon we are rewarded with seeing our third hive growing. We manage to push into thier spawn, and start the final decimation. Commander Distress beacons maybe twice, and we enjoy the freshly spawned marines before I eat the observatory, and very soon its game over.

Im sure i missed out many points in my story, but as it happened about a week ago, and my memory not being perfect, Im terribly sorry if ther are inconsistencies. Wish I could have posted it as soon as teh game ended, but the board was playing funny buggers, and wouldnt let me in. BTW this game took about an hour and a half, it seemed like 5 hours though in game. Was a very rewarding and satisfying game. Comebacks are even more fun than any regular game. The good thing was, even though one guy was trying to get us to F4, we all stuck to our guns and kept it up (It seemed almost every game he would try to get us to F4 whenever it started to look doubtfull. I guess some people are just quitters)

On Eclipse, we had started off in Eclipse Command, and we had gone for a skulk rush. Meanwhile, one guy had gorged and was capping some nodes. While fighting off the marines, I heard the "New trait available" announcement, and I click on Carapace...only...it wasn't upgrading. I look on the screen, and the guy had built a sensory chamber! I think "Well, this game won't end up too good...". Man, was I wrong. I decided to get cloaking, but there was a problem-there was only 1 chamber up. Eww.

10 minutes later, the marines had siezed Maintenance and had a phase gate and turrets. Our gorge finally starts the hive in Computer Core, and builds 2 more sensory towers. The hive goes up, and some of us (including me) evolve into fades. The gorge has now built a bunch of defense chambers under the hives, allowing me to get Carapace. But then, some guys start getting killed by HMGs. I think, "We'd better assault Maintenance before they get HA...". So, me and a few fades go and attack. Then I hear "Hive is under attack!", but I figure it's just some guy with a jetpack shooting it up with an LMG. Then, I hear "The hive is dying!", and I realize that something's wrong. It turns out that they had sent 3 guys with jetpacks and HMGs at the hive. Then I see my res drop down to 33, and realize that our hive's gone down. Since we had taken out maintenance and had a gorge on the way, I head back to inspect the damage, and see that they only took out the hive, nothing else. So, we get another gorge to head in and rebuild. The remaining fades (including me) head back to maintenance, when a cloaked skulk reports that there are 5 HA/HMG guys headed to maintenance through the top. This guy then attacks them, but with no luck. Then, after he spawns, he reports that he saw the whole group weld the guy that he had attacked.

Now I'm thinking, "5 guys with HMG, armor, and welders are attacking our last base? Not good...". So, I do something irrational and, for the most part, <i>stupid</i>. I head around from South Loop behind them. They're not even looking behind them. I start slashing one guy, and take him out, the other guys don't even notice. I start on another guy, and one guy noticed. He starts shooting just after I kill the second guy. I run up to the shooter and slash him dead. At this point, I'm at 39 health without armor. I think, "Well, desperate times call for desperate measures..." and start slashing a fourth guy. He notices me and kills me. Now, the hive has just been started by the gorge we sent in, but we don't have it up. 2 more skulks finish off the HA squad that I'd weakened, but we expect the worst, since we kept seeing more HA marines walking around. The next few minutes were agonizing, waiting for our second hive to go up. It basically boiled down to a skulk finding a HA marine, and attacking, only to get mowed down. We also spot guys with jetpacks and grenade launchers. I then hear our maintenance gorge on say that there's another squad headed to maintenance. So, I head through south loop and have a look. I manage to sneak behind them and cloak. I see 6 guys, 2 with jetpacks and grenade launchers, and decide that I should go for the weakest ones. I pop out of cloak, and eat one jetpacker. Since I'm rushing him, he can't counter, because grenades are too slow for a skulk. I eat him, then head for the other GL/Jet guy. No one has noticed me yet, just like before. I start eating the other guy, but I get found out. I'm riddled with bullets, but my last bite kills the GL guy. Then, when I respawn, me and 2 other skulks go after the leftover marines. We manage to eat 3 of them before getting killed. Then we see the name of the last marine being killed by an offense tower shot! At this time, our hive had rebuilt, and our resources were high, so we went fade and upgraded.

That's when I hear, "New trait available.", and know that our gorge, in a fit of cleverness, decided to build movement chambers when the hive was built, because it acted like a new hive! So now, there are about 4 fades (including me), a lerk, and some gorges and skulks with all of the upgrades available at level 3. We get a gorge to go with us and head to Eclipse to group up and prepare. That's when we see a siege cannon start blowing up our Eclipse hive! A skulk reports that they have stuff set up outside, so we look, expecting another turret base, but all we find is a lone, unequipped marine, a turret factory, and a siege. Sneaky buggers had tried to set up a base as one last hurrah. We quickly dispose of him, then head through Triad Generator Array to the marine base. We expect a long, drawn-out battle, and we get one. We start assaulting with acid rockets, while the lerk left umbras, and the gorge with us healsprayed ad nauseum. Then I see my resource limit jump from 66 to 100, and realize that our other Gorge had built the hive in our absence! We keep up the assault, but we can't seem to kill them. So, we head to maintenance to plan a strategy. We agree on 3 onos (me being one of them)as the main attack force, 2 lerks to provide umbra and sporecloud support, 2 fades for distance attacks, and a gorge to build defense chambers behind us.

It was hard keeping our plan a secret, but eventually, we set our own "D-Day" in motion. The marines almost died when they saw 3 onos bust through their front door, followed by a bunch of fades and lerks shooting acid rockets, sporeclouds, spikes, umbras, and bilebombs. It was pure chaos, but it <i>worked.</i> We took over the base and claimed it as our own. Then we noticed that the game wasn't over. I head out to heal and search. I expected the last marine to be in a vent, but I decide to go out and search anyway. What do I see but the last marine, running to who knows where. I ready my charge and activate it. The marine turns around, and then starts running away. I chase him down, and gore him with a satisfying CRUNCH!

    Game over-Kharaa win.

That had to be my best game ever.
