Model Consistency Check

they worked around it in cs.....
i know that for some time all the weapon replacements went bust in cs (wich was ok at the time around beta 7-1.1 or something) but after a while new weapon replacements came along that had the same filesize as the originals or something so they passed the check
im no modeler and i dont know if the concistency check in ns is different or how it worked in cs for that matter
and as i dont see changing my crosshair or sprites cheating as it doesnt give me a huge advantage over others
changing the player models to something that is easier to see or along thoose lines i dont approve of however, but there are worse things then a smaller muzzleflash sprite like aimbots and fullbright models
sorry for bringing thoose things up but this is my oppinion on the matter and you might not agree with me but spare the potential readers of this post the excersize of having to scroll trough a lot of posts that doesnt have anything constructive to add (like : you cheatz, you suxors)
i have noted that parts of the ns community is rabbid in their approach to customization
some of the things are silly and disrupt gameplay and imho the muzzleflash doesnt i cant hit anything even with the shotgun
note that english is a second language and i appologize for any spelling or gramar errors

It's in, but it's off by default. It's the choice of the admins to turn it on or leave it off, just as it's the choice of the players to play with custom models.
There's not much point in debating it further . . . it can't be removed entirely for practical reasons, and if an admin wants to ensure absolutely no deviation from the out of box (so to speak) set up on his server, it isn't really anyone else's place to demand something different.
counter strike had some sort of concistency check but a range in wich it tolerated the model if its a bounding box or something i dont know
and i dint really mean to bring up this disscussion all over again in that way sorry about that
so my question is this: is the consistency check strict or a little more forgiving like the one in cs???
I'm not sure exactly how the check is done now, but it's more or less looking for the precise model. I think. I don't know how many different properties it checks to determine that. I'd imagine that in the future it might be more lenient, but for the time being, there are bigger programming items outstanding for the game . . .
I'm just glad the NS team has enough devotion to their creation to be strongly on top of everything about it. An issue comes up, they fix it. I like that kind of attitude. And how long did it take for the first NS release? A year? Holy crap, that's an unbelievable amount of work to get done in just a year! These guys are working their BUTTS off for us. That doesn't mean we should take that work for granted. Sure, it's freely available, but that doesn't mean we -DESERVE- it. We should all be more than grateful for the years of work and butt-loads of money they invest for us to be able to play THEIR games, on THEIR servers [the NS team and server admins]. Do you know what it costs, per month, to host a -good- server? Some of them are at $199 a month!
And if the NS team deffers to those people who -do- pay money to host servers, or anything else, once in a while, who's to say anything? How much has the NS team sacrificed for this game we love so much? Why shouldn't they give something to the other people who make their own sacrifices for us? They're the ones providing a service. We're just the users. There's a moral difference somewhere in there, to me.
The current situation seems to be a fair compromise between admins, devs, and players. Custom models can be used on approximately 50% of the servers I've seen (and I should know, because I hit one of those weird consistency bugs with the level 4 model, and didn't have the forums up to tell me how to fix it, so I had to bear with it for a week). No matter how rabid you are about your opinion, there's always going to be someone who feels the exact opposite, and sometimes you have to meet them in the middle.
i appologize again as that was never my intention
i realize that a lott of time money and work has gone into both making the mod and administrating the
servers and i appreciate the work put in by everyone
thank you
I just didn't want this whole hornets' nest to get stirred up again . . .as I said, this was a pretty popular (and emotional) topic with the arrival of the latest server patch.
I can very well understand that such topics would end up being highly emotional. I like blood in DoD, personally, because it adds to the whole simulation feel. If NS doesn't have blood, that's the dev team's prerogative, same with anything else. It's a service they're providing.
