Reviving space crusade

<div class="IPBDescription">Time to dust off that cryo pod...</div>After the shock of remembering space crusade (See earlier post) I was thrown into a deep pool of nostalgia which eventually led me into doing something a little crazy.

I have started re-working space crusade in DirectX from both old Amiga and PC versions!

<img src="http://www.btinternet.com/~engledew/splash.gif" border="0">

Although not as illustrious as this mod, this pocket version of space crusade could be a neat little toy (only 320x240), and I will be looking for interested folks to provide whatever they can. Beta-test, make maps (I am working on a map editor too) - its all good.

Please note that this may be shot down by those evil lawyers, however I’m really just looking to see how many people would be prepared to play the game (netcode seems likely in later versions). For now its just going to be me, plodding along quietly, but everyone needs a little backing for motivation.

If the idea is popular I will chuck together a website.

What do you guys think?

    hot diggity of course!

    One thing, you can code?

    I will gladly make a website!

    It could be a minigame in NS, like the gamepig in System Shock 2, who here remembers GamePig?

    I can code... other wise I wouldn't have suggested that I did it! In fact, five hours heavy coding has now produced:

    The delightful space crusade pointer: 100% working;
    A map engine: Implemented in array form - translating into loadable files now...
    The space marines in all eight positions drawn to screen;
    The map drawn to screen.

    NEXT UP:
           Alpha transparent hud / minimap <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->

    PS: Hope the guys at natural selection don't mind me doing this... If you want me to shut up, then I will happily do so. (This is a little rude considering its not even my webby).

    SCREENSHOTS SOON...

    PPS: It is EXTREMELY unlikely this could be implemented as a mini-game... We are probably using completely different languages and styles. You could play Crusade outside the game though <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->

    [EDIT]
    Saying that, it WOULD be nice to spend more time pushing some game fodder out... I've seen your site and its nice. Tell you what. Have a go and see what you can do - get in touch via my email address. [/EDIT]

    I'd also like to point out that currently I am using the original Crusade graphics. Not only is this terribly rude (to steal anothers art is a sin in my books [dispite my avatar]) it also doesn't translate well to the world of hi-colour.

    If anyone thinks they can do better on a 16x16 (or 32x32 - dunno which yet) tile give me a bell (PM or EMail). Send me a 32x32 icon file that you think would look good sitting pretty at the top of me program if its good then I may have to lock you away in a darkened room to create tiles for me.

    I will of course be providing full credit to the original space crusade team. God knows they deserve it...

    I'm hoping interest is high for this, because without the motivation from skilled message board bums and ideas men like you - and a small audience for anything I release, I'm not sure I will implement anything past getting all the space hulk rules into the game and working. I dont need netcode to play by myself <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->

    Anyway I digress...
      Back to the anvil.

    You could always use an Amiga and Atari emulator to play the original, that'd give you some graphics to work off of, since I know they have different quality of graphics. Wouldn't know about the PC version since I could never get it to work.

    Ooooohhh cool! <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo--> I kinda hope you let Flayra use this as a mini-game. I REALLY hope he wants it!
    I can beta test! <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->

    To get the pc version to work you must disable HIMEM (Config.sys) and run either CPUKILL or MOSLOW.

    As I said in a previous post I already have the graphics, I am 'screen-shotting' them from my PC version.

    As for a mini-game. Unlikely.

    I now have a copy of the new space hulk rules, borrowed from a friend. I will be using these.

    This update will have loads of new additions such as netcode, it wont be identical. (If I wanted that I would just play my original version).

    Im now working on implimenting the movement section of the game.

    Currently I have no plans to include the isometric view.

    I have had a number of views, but few replies. Does this mean that people arn't interested in the idea of the remake?

    I never played the game, in fact never heard of it :/
    So I just guess most people just don't know the game
