<div class="IPBDescription">Choking the enemys res off.</div> In almost every game I play at the moment the marines sole aim in the game seems to be to capture and hold a hive.
We almost always get one hive.
Then depending on how well we work/how good the com is, we eather get the 2nd hive OR they've already got fades and they mash us up at our hive, get all the hives and win.
What I was wondering was if a stratagy could be employed where the commander had an 'assult team' right from the get-go with 1 LMG and one Shotty.
The shotty could rapidly eat the un-protected res towers and the LMG is there for anti-skulk protection.. If you've not got lots of players then you might wana JUST send one person out with a shotty (although this is gonna be risky) Problem is the less players the aliens have the faster they will get fades yes?
Another stratagy that is faily obvious and I see people use but which some commanders seem blissfully un-aware of is pre-sieged hives.
If there's a hive with a res point in the next room why on EARTH do you put 1001 turrets AND a phazed gate AND an armoury in that hive? the cost of that explansion is obscene and its not getting you any res.
Why not just hold the res tower outside their hive (with lots of turrets and a gate) then upgrade the turret to siege BEFOR THEY BUILD A HIVE. Then the second you get an incling they're going for that hive its 'marines through the phased gate build siege turret please' and they waste 80 res.
ANOTHER annoying thing I see commanders do is not make 'noise' for the aliens, while we all hate Rambo's they do serve a usefull purpose of making the aliens think something happening that isn't. If your team are all doing fairly well in terms of following your orders if you assign someone Rambo and have them try and sneak to a res tower or better yet a hive that person can really mess with the aliens heads:
'Our hive is under attack'
'WTF guys how are they hitting that hive?'
'OMG YOU NEWBIE GORGE YOU DIDN'T BUILD DEFENCE!!'
'YES I DID YOU LAMER!!'
Ah the wonders of discord.
The more time you buy for your marine comrades not getting bit the better, I see lots about how skulks should harras the marines but no one seems to think that a single marine harrasing the skulks is a good Idea (of course the problem is when you have ALL your marines harrasing the skulks and one guy trying to build up res towers and def)
Of course as an added bonus if when the Rambo marine does reach a hive you dump a load of ammo next to him its posssible (although admittedly highly unlikley) that He'll take said hive down.
Biggest problem is that rambo has to be a fairly effective player capable of jumping turrets without getting hit, Sneaking through vents ect, which means if you aint got many players he'd be better off playing as 'sgt of the marines'

Not very hard to defend against, what I can see. Nice, long lines of fire, no headroom... once the marines get a phase gate there, it's VERY hard for the Kharaa to take it back.
Why use the assualt team to get the "unprotected" res nodes when you can use the same team to take out the 1st alien hive? You can do that right off the bat too, especially on a map like ns_eclipse.
In Hera.. You can seige two hives from processing.
Talk about choke point... Lame way to win.
littlewild if you can attack their hive at the start with one lmg and one shotty and kill the hive.. You'll win no matter what you do.
