Marines In Vent :( :(

Hey guys,

I just played a game, forgot to write down the map >
its the one where theres a vent that you can fall from and die (from what i can remember o_O) a few bridges ect... big heights..

Anyway to the point. I was playign aliens, and after a good match, we had the marines in our sights.
However, the marines knew they were gonna die, so they rebuilt there base... IN THE VENTS!

Now... we had 2 hives, and needed a 3rd, but they build siege in the vents, right outside the hive. So it was basically
impossible to kill them with anything, because lurks and skuls were too weak for the 6 or 7 turrets in the vents.

They constantly had people scouting the entrances and killing us trying to evolve into fades. It was impossible!
They all sat couped up for at least an hour and a half taunting us to goto the ready room. We managed to blink
to there small base a few times, but it was too heavily guarded to do any damage. Also, they got res some how, from nothing!
they had no res points on the map, yet they managed to still build (slowly).

I though this was alittle unfair

Oh and on caged (the one with the engine room?)
there was 3 hives, but one remains unnamed, so not knowing the maps, it was hard to find it, since there was no text idication of where it is

Anyway, besides those negatives, NS rocks! and I love it. Keep up the good work guys. Im so happy to see
people switching from cs. I wish action HL was this popular, hehe

I thought this was gonna be about how biting in vents is still broken.

If you have room to build TF, sieges and so on a vent I guess that is done on purpose by the map autor. Yesterday we attacked data core on hera using the small cave which is the "rear door" to hive. Since attacks from there are not likely, it was undefended and we set up (us the bomb) , tf, turrets, sieges and even a phase gate. Man... it was funneh

I guess your right, but if it was accessable by Fades, it would be much fairer. You cant take out fully armored marines and turrets with skulls and lerks.

Heh, I was just in a situation exactly like this in the Nano-Gridlock server. The map is ns_nothing, by the way. We had two hives, and the marines were again dug in inside that vent room above the viaduct hive. We picked away at their turrets from far off in the vent, and then went in and umbra spammed. While the lerks did this, the rest of the team went skulk and helped us destroy them. It took a while, but we eventually wiped them out. It was great fun

remember they dont have any res comming in at that point, and you can get fades into the vents by pushing them up walls with lerk or skulk. THen umbra + fade = dead marine base.

You do get resources without any collectors but yes, it is obscenely slow. Here's a tip, get your fades to ride your skulks up the wall. I know that's dangerous in a couple of those hives with the long drop but hey, you got time . If the fade is getting badly hurt, he can always jump off and blink back to the ground.

Edit: Doh, read previous posts Elric.

If your team does not have any res nossels on the map, then I think you get 1 rp for every other tick. So 1 tick is 6 seconds (about not exact), so if you have no res nossels, you'll get 1 rp for every 12 seconds.

And yes, biting in vents IS still broken. Been on both sides of the issue (I've been a marine in a vent and a lurk attacking a marine in a vent) and I saw that the marine lives about 2x longer than normal.

There are multiple vent structures where Marines can build bases. Eclipse has one, Caged has one, Bast has one, Tanith has one... heck, all maps might.

Honestly, I don't see this as a big deal. You simply gas them out as a lerk, then rush in and eat the spawn. Problem solved.

First point. . . .I can't seem to think of it; where's the 'vent base' in Caged?

Second point. . . Yeah. I believe they were having trouble because the base was sieging a hive location from within. But yes, even without that third hive, you can always umbra spam and bite them to death. It's not a big deal.
