Server Ram Usage

<div class="IPBDescription">see above</div> I'm just wondering if any aerver op out there has some info on avg RAM usage while running a NS server. How much is used per map? How much do different maps use? How much is used per player? ...minimum recommended amount of RAM.... etc...

To be honest I've never actually played NS, but I'm gathering info about setting up a server. I've seen alot about CPU usage, but RAM usage seems to be ignored for the most part. Everyone seems to just have 512+mb and it's enough, but when oyu start running mutiple applications RAm availability becomes an issue. From what I can tell map size has some effect, as does number of players, though that's probably much more a CPU toll then a RAM toll.

Again, I'm just hoping some computer nerd like myself has gathered information about how much RAM NS takes under various circumstances.

16 player, linux, clanmod... RAM usage ranges from 58mb to 100mb, really no different than any other hlds i've seen running

lots of RAM to spare out of the 512mb but expect the game to suffer if you're running any other intensive applications on the same box, no matter how much RAM you throw in it... the cpu usage is intense even on a 16 player game.

    good luck

w2k + hlds and many other miscellaneous apps running I'm using 259mb of 1gb so 512 would be fine

I run my NS server with 256mb of DDR RAM. While I WANT to put more in there doesn't seem to be any compelling reason to spend the money. I run NS server, messageboards, WebServer and more on the same box and have zero issues with memory. Linux memory management is far superior to windows so I'm not sure how my statement applies to those servers running NT.
