torpedo teleports through reaper leviathan on xbox one

I stated a new game and once I got the moon pool and made the torpedo i thought of using it on the reaper leviathan so he would teleport away like other fish but once i hit his head with the vortex torpedo and it went right through him like it wasn't even there and then it would grab me and almost destroyed my seamoth but luckily I escaped.

Did you shoot it at the Reaper's head? Anywhere else is ineffective for all attacks(stasis rifle, knife, a zillion floaters, etc).

yes i hit him right in the head and went right through
