Would it be possible to confuse the QEP and get past it with a full fleet? [spoilers]

DISCLAIMER: I know I'm overthinking the game. That's the point. I, just like many others, do it for fun. If you are not intrested, please ignore this thread.

So, apparently there is only one gun protecting the whole planet. According to your PDA, it is capable of using the planets gravity to fire to the other side ("-- or bent around the planet's gravitational pull to strike targets in orbit.", that's one crazy targeting computer to run the necessary calculations...). That is all well and good as long as there is only one incoming ship, but what if there were more? As we see in the Sunbeam animation, the gun is very slow, taking a lot of time both to aim and to charge the shot.

Would it be possible to get past the QEP with a big fleet of (preferrably unmanned) smaller ships instead of one massive ship (same resources)? The gun would blast a couple of them out of the sky, but others could land while the gun is busy shooting them. You could also probably get a small, agile ship past it by constantly dodging considering the gun turns so slowly. Seems like the precursors didn't think this through.

Also, on an unrelated note, I once theorized about the precursors being the borg. I came accross this when looking at the QEP wiki page about their computer system:
"It is likely the alien species which designed this technology evolved, or genetically selected, sensory apparatus to 'hear' and understand the information being broadcast by the device, and to communicate back. The mental processing power required to perform this kind of telepathy would imply the designers were considerably more psychologically developed than the common human."
Of course the PDA does say they "evolved, or genetically selected, sensory apparatus", implying that it is an organic organ, but how does the PDA know it's not an artificial, cybernetic component?

They are probably not borg, but they are getting more and more similar.
