Valve has helped Flayra code, I think.

There's a difference between VALVe helping a mod team, and VALVe taking over a mod team.

They have not taken over a mod team yet. All the original coders, modellers, etc. for DoD still do their work, and Gooseman is still the main dude for CS.

    That is all.

I hope Valve doesnt touch this mod, CS and DoD is the reason they still havent made HL2 or TFC2 they are happy milking money off a 4 year old engine, since you cant buy HL unbundled they are still selling it for 49 a copy... its a faken rip off and I hate them for it.

Besides what they really need is a software dev like RockStar to pick em up, and write a new engine for this type of game. I guarontee that by the end of next year we will have at least 2 FPS/RTS games from major titles, so I hope they patented the Idea. (we will also have a really shittty FPS/RTS from EAgames I hope EA burns in hell and the internal organs of all the devs there get strung out over the sahara desert, the ruined Bond, 1942, NFS, and a few other titles they got their grubby hands on)

Geezz...bit of flame there. To my knowledge and outlook, valves involment on this would do no good. I also have no idea if they have helped out or not but...I don't think it would help. However it would be extremly nice if they would release a new engine that mod's could use without extensive work first, seeing as even this engine is getting old.

Yeah, everyone knows the HL engine is completely outdated... Only the constant patches have kept it alive, but there's only so much that can be done before you just have to pull the plug and let it die...

Right now, HL is only still around because of some amazing mod developers... Half-Life is becoming a freeware gaming industry in itself, and I totally agree with Mindmeld... They need to upgrade the engine without dumping the modders. The engine itself needs a complete revamp to bring it up to par with modern games... HL has clearly become a "cult classic", so to speak, but the modders are pushing the limits of the engine, and those limits need to be raised.

But anyway, back to the original topic of the thread.... I think the limit of Valve's involvement in the modding community has been limited to advanced tech support... They help the mod developers with the SDK, and give them advice on how to best integrate with the engine. I could be wrong, but that's the impression I've gotten from news posts over the years.

I also think Valve has been doing more than just milking the HL engine for all it's worth... Did anyone else follow the TF2 forums for the first couple years? Think of the great "new" technologies they were planning on implementing... First, the great thing was going to be the RTS element, as NS has done. Even if Valve didn't give any support on this, Flayra might have gotten the idea there (Dunno, you'd have to ask him). Second, the MRM technology that Intel helped them out with... Well, I think a limited form of that was added in one of the HL patches.... They had promised netcode that would enable voice-over-IP even on 56k modems... I don't think I have to point out that we have that in HL now :)

So Valve is using the outdated HL engine to test all of the technologies they're planning for HL2 and TF2.... HL has devolved from a commercial product to a clandestine alpha test! THEY'RE USING US! USING US!!! USING U-- *gunshot* *collapses* *Valve/CIA operative sneaks away into the shadows*

    Heheheh...
