When you chase a Peeper at night, it'll often briefly close its huge yellow eyes to make catching it more difficult. If you kill a Peeper using the method of your choice (accidental smack with a Seamoth is mine), and either don't pick it up or release it into the water, it will close its eyes when you get too close, and then reopen them when you back away.
