JELLYSHROOM BASE POWERSUPPLY SIDEQUEST

LEVEL: Intermediate
LENGTH: Medium
LOCATION: Jellyshroom Caverns
HOSTILES: Endemic crab-snakes

DEPLOYMENT OF EXISTING FEATURES:
• Computer desk
• PDA
• Thermal power generator
• Power transmitters
• Signal beacons

SYNOPSIS:
On discovering an abandoned PDA in a ruined base, the player is prompted to restore the base's power supply. Once achieved, several game locations are clearly identified. All these locations reflect the on-going Degassi narrative thread. Quest rewards are already intrinsic to each location.

QUEST DETAILS:
A search of the Degassi Jellyshroom Base turns up an additional PDA near an unpowered computer console (78,-265,-270)
The PDA belonged to Bart Torgal. It reads:
"The best thing about Marguerit's plan for this base is all the free thermal power. The worst thing about it are all these mad Crab Snakes!
They seem to have an unhealthy fascination with our power transmitters - always snatching them away into their shroom-nests.
Is it something about the gold content that attracts them? I must study this when I have the time,
but unless I can keep up with the repairs the computer terminal will be useless.
Sure, I'll lose all my research, but Marguerit will truly lose all her cool if her new beacon frequencies are gone too."

The player may then decide to repair the ruined power-line that sprawls through the Jellyshroom caves. The power runs between the base and a damaged thermal generator (at -305,-95,-188). Several of the power transmitters have been displaced, or hidden inside various Jellyshrooms. The player may opt to retrieve the transmitters, or more perhaps more prudently build new ones.

Once power has been restored the base's computer lights up. As the player approaches within 2m of the computer his/her PDA gives this message:
"Interfacing with local database .... downloading bulk data set .... installing new fauna data
..... installing new beacon frequencies..... *DING* .... Please check your Ping Manager for new signal sources"

The player's Ping Manager now shows several new beacons. They're labelled as follows:
- 'Beacon - Stalker-tooth Horde'
- 'Beacon - Flora Study'
- 'Beacon - New Build-site'

QUEST REWARDS:
The first beacon can be traced to a wreck (-320,-55,250) featuring many fallen stalker teeth.
The second to the garden beds on the Floating Island (-630,20,-175) featuring food plants in proximity to other Degasi bases containing tech fragments.
The third to the Deep Grand Reef ruin (-640,-490-940) featuring important tech fragments and other Degasi treasures.

EXECUTIVE SEAMOTH' EASTER-EGG QUEST

LEVEL: Intermediate
LENGTH: Medium
LOCATION: Kelp forest boundary with Crash Zone
HOSTILES: 5 Stalkers
NEW ITEMS:
• Executive Seamoth Submarine (a re-coloured and re-tweaked Seamoth)
• Giant Verdant Cradle Plant (a re-coloured and greatly enlarged Rouge Cradle)

SYNOPSIS:
Player discovers a submarine trapped in flora, then recovers it by intelligent use of various tools and base structures.

QUEST DETAILS:
Whilst investigating kelp forest near the stern of the Aurora (eg. 250,-60,-505) the player may find an unusual Seamoth concealed in thick vegetation.
Five Stalkers patrol the craft. Like any stalkers they can be easily driven off, but these will always return within 10 minutes.

Much of the vegetation can be destroyed using a knife. This will reveal the sub is in fact trapped within a 'Giant Verdant Cradle' plant.
A player who scans this plant receives the following description:
"Giant Verdant Cradle ...
A relative of the much smaller and reclusive Rouge Cradle, the Giant Verdant cradle has evolved as a parasitic plant.
It is usually seen growing in the nests of Reaper Leviathans, where it can grow extremely rapidly to envelope a single egg.
The plant then releases a cocktail of enzymes to slowly dissolve the egg over a period of years.
The interwoven tendrils of this plant are well-known for their extraordinarily high tensile strength rating.
Unfortunately this is of little commercial value as the plant becomes very brittle when exposed to air"

Any attempts to release the Seamoth from the Giant Verdant Cradle will not succeed - so long as it remains submerged. However, a player using a hardened knife on the base of the plant can dislodge it from the seafloor. Once dislodged, the player can move Cradle plant together with its trapped sub - it rolls along the seafloor like a giant tumbleweed. For this, a skilful use of the Repulsion Cannon, or even a gentle ramming with another sub can prove effective.

If the trapped sub can be manoeuvred correctly beneath a moonpool, it will be captured by the docking arms and pulled up into the docking position. Whilst docked and drying, the Giant Rouge Cradle plant blacken over a period of several minutes. As its tendrils change colour they can be cut away using any kind of knife. Once complete, the player has full use of the Executive Seamoth.

QUEST REWARD - 'THE EXECUTIVE SEAMOTH'
The appearance of this craft its only obvious difference with a conventional Seamoth: It is decorated uniquely in manner befitting an Alterra senior executive.
However, it also has 3 hidden functional differences:
1. Its appearance cannot be changed by the player
2. It has a top-speed that is 5% faster than a conventional Seamoth
3. When it is jumped out of the water it will bounce once on the surface before submerging again.
