What are the devs exactly working on right now.

I've been trying really hard to stay out of the news loop for this game.....

I have sat in the corner of my room muttering to myself *wait till 1.0, wait till 1.0*.......

I wanted to wait to play this again till all the story stuff was ready

But I made a mistake... I watched part of a lets play. And I REALLY want to play Subnautica right now. So please please tell me they are done with most of the story features and everything. Is pretty much all their working on now is bugs and stuff. Can we play this game through? Responses are appreciated.

I WANT to say it is in its final stages, but I'm not sure I'd be truthful. While they do have most of the story completed and are working on the last portion of the exodus from the planet, I'm not sure if they will add a little more story line or not. So far the devs have redone some of the icons and even tweaked the PDA interface. Made some changes to O2 and crafting. All in all I think 1.0 will be ready later this year, at least I hope so! I would definitely replay it if I were you. So much has changed since I bought the game over 1.5 years ago and I thoroughly enjoy what UWE has brought to the table. I hope that helps.

There are still some rather major changes going on in the game that I think will need to be play-tested by all of us before UWE does a 1.0 release--e.g. power...

V1.0 won't hit until September/October. Until then, development focus will be optimization, but there's also several models that still need to be updated, many flora/fauna scans aren't yet added while some existing scans don't apply to all available models + one scan type needs a failsafe, the egg collection/breeding gameplay isn't complete yet, the energy system is mid-rework, the reaper still needs spawn priority, two critters should be added in the next few months, the Cyclops is a tale on its own, and so on.

The story still misses two steps, the last of which has been said not to be implemented until launch so older fans will stay tuned. These aren't big steps and you'll likely be bothered more by a handful of bugs in the story as implemented so far (the last update needed to be out in time for the sale) than by the former's absence.

If you've waited this long, my advice is to wait a little more.

@NerdyEric Was it by chance one of Markiplier's Let's Play videos for Subnautica? Because I gotta say, his videos are a delight to watch - either due to slight overconfidence at times, or his general giddy nature, his LPs are so enjoyable.

Also, him playing Subnautica is what first directed my attention to it in the first place. Between him playing in a vast endless ocean, to exploring the mysteries of the deep, and making "friends" with Karen, Jeffrey, Billy, Samwise and Marshall... Mark: "This game is so awesome!" Indeed it is, Mark!

The bottom line is, I wouldn't be playing Subnautica if it wasn't for Markiplier... in fact, Subnautica was the first game I ever bought in Steam (for the longest time I've had a distrust of virtual media in favor of physical media... but that's no longer the case sadly, as my wallet can attest to lol)
