Thermoelectric tether power harpoon

Fire a harpoon with a tether, surrounded by an insulated thread of superconducting cable. One harpoon into a heat vent, another... probably just a buoy with heat dissipation fins?

Utilize temperature difference for power generation.

There has GOT to be a better name for this.

Inspired at least a little by the time Louis Wu boiled an ocean. Go read Ringworld and the sequel if you haven't already. (Book 3 and 4 are even better, IMO.)

Nice but people might see it as a weapon instead.

We don't want that to happen

It shouldn't be any more effective than ramming things with a Seamoth. The harpoon is built to tether to seabottom, not penetrate fishies.

Cool idea! Maybe you could call it something like: the Power Tether.

Might this not make the thermal plant redundant? Additionally, it would make too easy to deploy as it would remove the need to go in with a reinforced dive suit, and thermal power should remain a somewhat more late-game power source, in my opinion.

Sure, if you only ever plan to use a single thermal plant, and hook it directly to the Cyclops.

So... no. This is to recharge the Cyclops in the field, this is not a base power system. Two entirely different things.
