Grammar

Finally a mod team with maturity...
Finally a mod that not only looks stylish, but with a mature attitude too! The use of Valve's engine is a stunning triumph, while the website is accessible and friendly, each word written with a considered elegance that is often lacking from many mod making teams.

Thanks for all the hard work on our behalf; Consider me converted. From here on I will spread the word.

PS. I was wondering -- does some of your inspiration come from the little known game Incubation by Blue Byte?

this message brought to you by the society of english majors.

But on the subject of grammar, you should venture into our splendid irc channel sometime. The server is irc.gamesnet.net, and the channel is #naturalselection. Perhaps your grammar can rub off on some of the, well, less educated of our followers.

    -'bozo

    P.S. Molec or Spyder: Off-topic?

    A) Read the FAQs.

    B) Look around rr.org and ns.org.

    C) Wow, looks like you've already done those.

    D) C wasn't an order was it?

    E) Yes Spyder, i've stolen your thunder again, although i'm sure if you talk to Zeus he'll be happy to lend you some.

Inside joke. English majors are people (usually americans) who take mostly english classes in college and are known to use big words and be sticklers for grammar. Sorry for the confusion.

I'm sure you've already checked out the readyroom and the NS main page, so your next assignment is to drop into the chat room. Make sure you tell everyone what country you're from, because people in the chat room are from everywhere.

    I hope this helps.

Welcome! There are quite a few of use who still take pride in correct textual expression. We shouldn't be too hard on those who don't always use proper grammar and puctuation. We have to remember that not all of our posters have learned english as a primary language, and english is a very difficult language to master. There are even far too many adult Americans who can't seem to grasp it.

I think the forum bums are taking way too long to off-topic this thread, so I'll break the ice by doing something completely spontaneous and random.

/me jumps up and down, shouting "Blarg!" and thumping his chest

    well?

    Ah...I see!

Pardon my lack of general knowledge and I will be sure to examine every nook and cranny of the site.

I don't use big words to confuse everyone, just to boost my ego.

A very conceptual concept, my fellow master of words and paraphenallia. Welcome to the NS world. Be sure to check EVERYTHING, because there is tons you may miss if you don't look in every possible place

Welcome, Wintermute. The growing community of mostly intelligent and mature people is definitely what I consider to be one of NS's high points, especially since nothing's really been released yet(I hope you like racing and hide-and-seek). Hope you'll enjoy your stay, you probably won't have TOO much longer to wait until you get to play this masterpiece.

Aww, thanks. Those of us that spend time on our words (most of us) appreciate it. I slaved over every word in some of the sections on this site (especially the About page), glad to see it is appreciated.

As a matter of fact, I loved Incubation. I'm not sure how much of an influence it was on NS though. Offhand, I can't think of anything in it that is in NS, but maybe if I try hard enough. The list of games that NS has been compared to (generally not unfairly) includes:

    - Gloom (mod for Quake 2)
    - Starcraft
    - Aliens vs. Predator
    - Space Hulk
    - Advanced Space Crusade (OK, I compared it to this)
    - Counter-strike
    - Half-life
    - Tribes (I/II)
    - Battlezone (I/II)

    and now

    - Incubation

    Welcome, Wintermute.

    - They probably don't have a great deal in common, I was originally going to compare the mod to the top down Space Crusade on the Amiga (and later one of the first Windows only games in its 3d incarnation Space Hulk), however I didn't think that many people would recognise it. Instead I decided to offer up a more modern game (although Incubus is getting a little old in the tooth - Glide only folks).

Im looking forward to experiencing this mod and I feel a little bad that I have come so late in the development - i'm sure most of you have been drooling in anticipation for ages. I would like to make a suggestion however.

It seems odd that I have only just heard of this mod, considering that I often while away the wee hours scouring the net for inspirational new creations such as this. I think that adding your mod to the list at planethalflife.com (http://www.planethalflife.com/community/hosted/mods.shtm) may be good advertising as I believe that it is not currently there (please correct me if im wrong).

I havent double checked this post, and im very sorry if it seems a bit 'off' in any way - its not meant to be, its just its 22:54 here and i've been up for 47hrs straight working on some code. Thx for the warm welcome all, i'm off to beddy-byes to dream of commanding a squad of marines who probably won't understand a word im saying...

Grammar? Nah, I'm too lazy to learn l337. I still reserve the title of Typo King™. Also due to the fact that I almost misspelled grammar. Dang it I almost did it again.

Welcome aboard my fine English friend. May you enough your stay.

In order to have a site listed on that particular page, one must have a site hosted by PlanetHalf-Life. While this may give NS a bigger audience, it would also require banner ads and conformation to the PHL guidelines. I'm not sure what the feeling is among the other team members about his.

Yes yes yes... Off-Topic, sure... I'll move it.

    *poink*

I'm surprised Flayra didn't, but he really should be focused on the Playtesting right now, so I don't blame him.

Anywho, 'ello, welcome to the forums 'n stuff.

Bob's in that corner. Don't cross over the circle painted around him, or he'll pin your foot to the floor, and gnaw through your leg.

<brag>And part of the reason the IRC folk aren't as inclined to use grammar is because I don't hang out there. After all, I did get a perfect Verbal PSAT score.</brag>

    So did I.

I'm thinking of changing my sig to the "society of english majors" thing. What do you think?

Winter, I played Space Crusade, could never get Space Hulk to work though... so I'd have gotten your reference even if no one else did.

And I love your avatar, SS2 is a very nice game...

Meaning I have no issues with you... congratulations
