For Marine Comms.....
I'm commanded quite a few times so I know the urgence of securing a 1st hive and then sieging 2nd hive right after. Let me type in a scenario to explain how my 'pace' is when I'm comm and then plz give your thoughts.
1-5 min, Marines start. Build your usual sh1t3, while fending off skulk rushes.
6-8 min, move out and secure a nozzle NEXT to Hive 'X', while also making sure that Hive X HAS a nozzle within itself.
Note: I usually leave the 1st nozzle (besides base) that I build undeffed, for (below).
9-14 min, now your in Hive X. You cover the nozzle, build factory, and add a few (3-5) turrets.
15-20 min, moving to a 2nd hive, NOT to build within it, but to siege it from a nozzle OUTSIDE of Hive #2.
Now, I usually strive to get (the above) done asap because I hate dealing with fades. Note that I do have to deal with any newb/sorry teammates. Of course, I don't have any upgrades or anything done because I SOOOOOO need to emphasize the importance of getting that 2nd hive sieged.
My main point and idea to experienced comms is: Do you find yourself basically RUSHING to prevent Aliens from gaining a 2nd Hive?
So far in my last two comm games (same map), the 1st one I won by doing the above.
Second game... I had really sorry arse soldiers. We were like xx-20 in under 10 min.

Anyways, I think the interface is not too great at Natural Selection. The mini-map on the bottom corner of the screen displays FALSE INFO like when you lose a building, the colors are still blue, so you think your buildings are still there.... Also, in semi-laggy games, it's IMPOSSIBLE to command... although I won many games in laggy games, they have a high success rate of giving me a lot of headaches...
Overall I start like this...
first few minutes, kick out 2-3 I.P.'s...depending on players...and an armory...survive rush...move out
Secure 2-3 nodes..as in drop node and move unless it's uunder consistant attack.
If a node is being attacked I will move marines to scout the area and if I find a hive, secure nodes around the hive and box them in...with turrets...usually 4-5 at the nodes.
While that is happening...send the rest of the team...5-6 around the map dropping nodes and securing 1 hive out of hand. Then after that first one is secure immediatly moving to the next hive securing all nodes along the way. By the time i reach the second hive it's anywhere from 10-15 minutes into a game...I get motion tracking first thing usually in the first 5 or 6 minutes of a game. Sometimes I trail off and forget about upgrades as in weapons and HA...but I do kick out the weapons lab upgrades as I go...armor first to let my marines survive.
however usually in the first 15 minutes of the game I have full HMG and HA kits at the spawn, most of the upgrades done...and 3/4 of the map secure. If that aliens do slip past me at some point and get to a second hive...they are usually so starved of resources that it takes them awhile to get a hive up...and then longer just to get out a fade or to. In that time I've sieged one hive already and I'm bearing down on the next one with troops.
I don't turtle at the spawn unless it's APPSOLUTLY needed...it uses up all my RP's for only 1-2 turrets and it means I can't do ANYTHING for about 1-2 minutes...even drop weilders. I don't turret up half the nodes I take simple because I can either shift troops to it...or it's no real loss RP wise because I have so many coming in. Then I'll just rebuild it and add some turrets...I don't rely do much on static defenses like that...to easy to forget about and loss in no time...which has happened. A node takes a little while to go down and lets me know where the aliens are and usually...a bit what they are doing.,
Most of my game is learning...adapting...and overcoming...and also annoying the hell out of them : )
