Dyes

All these plants all over and nothing to use them for but decoration. What if you could chance them into dyes and dye your tools or base walls with them? Its a simple idea used by many games but the main reason I'm suggesting this is that the Subnautica Xbox club I'm in has a lot of people asking what are the plants used for or that they need to be used for something. I honestly thing they don't need to be used and we don't really need dyes but I thought I'd put their suggestion down since they don't know about the suggestion forums(apparently).

I don't really think that dyes make that much sense. Your base is made of metal. You can't exactly.... dye it...

I also kind of like the sleek look of the tools and sea bases. The vehicle paint jobs are the only things that should have configurable colors.

    Titanium: Stain-free since 1791.

@SnailsAttack is right; dyeing anything in the Subnautica world would be incredibly difficult. We're talking about titanium alloys, glasses, polymers, and silicone. These things don't readily take a stain, certainly not one that'll stick.

There's no rule that says everything has to be useful, or even functional. Look around outside - most of the plants you see have no real function. There's a vast percentage that you can't do anything with; you can't eat them, can't make something out of them, can't even produce a dye or something of limited usefulness. They're there because they're part of the ecosystem or for human-installed decoration, not because we can do something with them. Ergo, it stands to reason that a significant number of plants and animals on 4546B are the same way: useless to us, but not to the ecosystem.

Even in games where crafting is totally crazy, like Skyrim, there are still a lot of things - including plants - that serve no purpose other than being part of the environment and making the game world more visually rich.

Some things just look pretty. :)

Thats why I said I didn't think it was a necessary idea.
