Everything I built disappeared...

When I opened the game to the title screen and went to click on my saved game, I saw that where the image of where you had been when you last saved was replaced with a pixel-y red question mark on a white background. I didn't think much of it, but when it loaded I spawned back at the Lifepod with my inventory empty. When I returned to where my base was, I found that everything I had dug out with the Terraformer was there, all of the creatures I had spawned were there, but everything I had built as well as my vehicles were just GONE. Some eggs I had in the alien containment unit were just lying on the ground where the room had been...

Does anyone know what happened, why it happened, and/or how to fix it?

    This happened to me once - all I did was close without saving and re-open the game. The problem seemed to self-correct. Did you get a red-text message about savegame corruption?
