A world map that shows the regions and zones

I think it would be a great idea to have a world map a collectable item which appears near the life pod. As you explore it reveals parts of the map, as you encounter creatures the map remembers and when you hover over the zone on the map it will give a list of the creatures you have encountered there. Or maybe it could already have some parts of the ocean discovered already because a survivor had lost it.

An in game map that reveals as you go would be brilliant, it's probably the single biggest thing lacking atm. I had a lot of issues with not knowing where i'd been till i started spamming beacons. But thats not ideal.
