What if near the lost river precursor facility there were pieces of amalgam(precursor metal) to pick up. There would be about 10 or more pieces of Amalgam Salvage to pick up in total.
Once you get the salvage, it can be turned into two chunks of Raw Amalgam in a fabricator. These pieces can be used to build Amalgam Reinforcements which add 21 hull strength(3x normal), larger Amalgam Lockers, or many other things.
