March Mod tournament - interest?

Would there be interest among players in participating in a tournament to showcase all the mods available in Natural Selection 2?

Non-symmetric games would have to be being best of 3 (and set up much like the NSL).

It would also be great if we could use the opportunity to raise money for a charity, such as Child's Play: http://childsplaycharity.org/

Got any ideas? Other game modes?

generally not a bad ida but isn't 16v16 a bit too large to be considered vanilla?

ns2large is considered a mod, but it has the same rules as vanilla.

I really like the idea of such a tournament however I want to point a few issues with the draft:

• You should play equal amounts of rounds given that many mods may not be balanced 50/50. The best example might be Last Stand, which was designed on purpose to be more challenging for the marine team.
• Not all mods do work with 16 vs 16. Either due to their game design or their maps not being fit for such team sizes.
• Not all mods listed work anymore and would need to be patched: SWS and Combat (unless you make sure everybody has a copy of the SA)

That's a great list! I would really like to try any of those mods, and would really like to see some games played. Sadly a lot of those mods don't work with the current build, but perhaps we can get the authors to fix them up. Getting a definitive list of working mods is one of the first things I need to do.

I was thinking teams of 8, so you can have 8v8 matches for most game modes. A special set-up for the ns2large game mode would be made, where you have 2 teams versus 2 teams, making it a 16v16 and deciding on initial placement within the tournament.

I will arrange for all participants to receive a copy of the NS2:Combat SA.

I don't have any experience hosting a tournament like this, so I'll be looking into either how the NSL handles things, or looking for help from the NSL to organize it.

Even 8v8 is a bit large for some of the game modes.

As regards my entries on the list, I'm not likely to work on PG or CTF again in the near future, and I am fairly sure both are broken.

I can't speak directly for @Scatter but I'm fairly sure he won't be working on CTF anytime soon. I couldn't comment on Assault.

I must admit, that list is a pretty fine line-up of mods. Considering all the mods that have been made over the years, with more attention and a different approach to updates etc, the NS2 modding scene could have been massive....

Also be aware, it is easier to create teams of smaller amounts. Smaller teams also is easier to organize. This is one of the major reasons comp NS2 is 6v6, and CSGO is 5v5.

IMO, NS2's CTF would be much better and much easier to balance if it was like Unreal Tournament's Flag Run.

Sadly enough, afaik they are all so outdated they don't even work.
