I'm guessing you mean a floating locker. Were there any saves or reloads between releasing locker and encountering the issue? Anything else weird, like console commands used, or other bugs encountered? The more info you can give as to how something happened, the more likely someone can figure out why.

My wild guess is a doubling issue, try picking up the locker, see if there is another in the same place.

no save and loads, leave the area and come back... happens wherever i leave locker

happens to locker placed in front of lifepod, picking up/putting back down does not correct error, happens with single item in locker

That is odd. Try placing a floating locker, adding an item, then saving and loading the game. If item remains, try going away and coming back, see if it disappears. By the way, are you on experimental or stable version? The developers were soon going to be changing how inventory storage works, and this could be a problem with their change.
