A lost river creature

I call him the lost river mongrel. He grabs you with his tongue/eye and try's to eat you. He is a little bigger then a crabsquid and maybe a subspecies. He lives in the lost river. He is semitransparent and bioluminescent. He spawns in the lost river bone fealds

Whatever creature evolved to have these two functions be served by one organ made some stupid decisions when evolving.
