So Devs... Color!

Hi guys. Firstly, and most importantly, this is a truly beautiful game. It's such a pleasure to look at--and I play on minimal settings! :)

I hope that, every once in a while, you take a moment to really LOOK at what you've created and remember how majestic it really is. Truly a thing of beauty, and you do have every single reason to be proud, even at this early stage. It's good to bask in that, though of course you don't want to rest on your laurels forever.

I have one thing that detracts a bit for me. We have this beautiful world, but we get... white and beige to build inside it with. A bit of black here and there, and some blue--all the same blue. I would really, really enjoy more color inside my poor white hospital-esque facility. I would like to think that, with all the dyes surely available around me, I would be able to make something besides white, black, gray, and steel blue. While the fabricator might have its own intentions, I'd like to believe I have the wits to improve upon what it gives me. If nothing else, with a paintbrush. A few more colorful items would be enjoyable. Even one or two things we could choose the colors of would really make it prettier in the cold, clinical environment of the base.

That being said, this is a small thing. I'm hoping that you'll leave modders a great deal of ability to add to the available decor, and maybe to add ingredients to make new colors. For example, a standing locker of yellow might require a peeper, a pink locker could use either an oculus or one of the pink flowers in addition to the regular materials. Or not, it could just be a simple 'color select' if making new recipes is more annoying.

To be more clear, the only colorful things we get right now are pretty much just the plants. I'd like more things to put inside the base that are bright and colorful. I wouldn't MIND if it were just different colors of the things already there, but I'd LIKE more variety not only in color, but in items, too. I'm asking that there be more decorations (instead of taking out the coffee vending machine--even if it doesn't work, it's decorative), and that due consideration be given when making a mod kit, to allow people to create more pretty things for inside the base.

Yes, the character is stranded, but he's stranded on a world of immense color, variety, and beauty. It would be lovely to bring some of that inside, too. Besides flowers. Which I love, don't get me wrong. But we can't really "landscape" outdoors, you know?

And, the final comment I have to say is to reiterate that, already the game is really magnificent. I'm in no way criticizing, merely requesting an addition. In this post, anyway. I have critiqued the steep early learning curve elsewhere, so I don't want you to think that I'm a full-on crazed fangirl. Close, though. ;)

Not exactly the same. I do talk about coloring, but I don't really care if they allow us to recolor, or if they give us more colors, period. More things. I don't necessarily want to recolor THE BASE, as much as I want more color choices to PUT IN IT. I want decor... particularly colorful decor. One idea was recoloring existing decor, but moreover, to also ask that they consider now what they are going to allow with modding, so we get great variety in interior decoration.

Believe it or not, some of us absolutely love that part of things. Being able to change the color of the base itself is not really what I'm getting at. I appreciate him asking for it, because that interests him. I don't care if it stays white (I think that fits the clinical nature of the mining ship), but I think it's unreasonable to be unable to color interior parts. I also think it's unreasonable that we only get a very few plants and approximately 8 interior decor items that are sheer decoration. I found the workaround for picture frames, but I want more. :p

I edited the OP to be far more clear. Thank you. :)

Subnautica is one of the few games I've played that regularly leaves me speechless. It's basically art.

No "basically" about it. It absolutely IS art! :)

Hear, hear! I was reflecting earlier today that Subnautica could be marketed for its visuals alone, the imagination and grace that goes into them is astounding. The game truly explores the possibilities of the 3-dimensional, interactive artistic landscape. The fact that it is also an amazing survival game just adds to the respect I have for it. This is definitely one of the best games I have ever played, and I congratulate the devs on it!

The bases are kind of drab, with nothing but white and gray/grey (Is there a difference?)

What I usually do, is I make one room of my base a plant room. I put plants from the island everywhere, with the growing walls on every side. It really is a step up in color.

Im sure this is something that will be coming eventually. We can already recolor all our vehicles, they added the option to change the color of Pings as well. Its surely only a question of time about the recoloring of Bases .... well at least i hope
