Today I started a brand new game. The black screen with the "Press any button to continue [or is it to play? can't remember] came up. I left it at that screen as I wished to pop out to the local Chinese takeaway. When I got back home about 15 minutes later I heard the Subnautica computer tell me that there will be an 85% increase in probability of a quantum detonation, just as you hear in the game. Then a few minutes later I heard the countdown and then the explosion on the Aurora. This is all behind the Press any key screen. I then pressed a key and the opening sequence launched (the escape from the Aurora.) I went through all the fire putting out and climbed out of the lifepod, and sure enough the Aurora had exploded.
So it seems the game gets impatient if you don't start playing and plays itself anyway
