Base building colors

So I've been watching some gameplay of Osiris New Dawn and it is no lie that its base building mechanic is pretty similar to Subnautica's. I'm perfectly fine with this as Subnautica's building system is awesome, I think its the perfect balance between a free-open ended building system like in Minecraft and something still easily maintained and kept in the world. But Osiris allows the player to color their bases (to a small degree). Wouldn't it be cool if we could do something similar in Subnautica?

Yes... yes it would. I mean they added paint color change to both the Cyclops and Seamoth, why not the base modules?

Agreed. It would be great to be able to customize your base even further. Maybe you could even give certain interior areas colored highlights that correspond with their function (hydroponics section is green, crew quarters are orange, labs are blue, etc.)

I could see making that available for the inside, but the outside is only going to reflect the main color of the water and the amount of sunlight streaming down to whatever level your base is at.

Being able to color code levels of the interior would be cool though.

Kinda like the Wildfire base from "The Andromeda Strain"...

I would say that No Man's Sky's base building is more similar to Subnautica's base building rather than comparing it to Osiris. Maybe in a few months, Osiris would have better base building, but I have never seen an Osiris base as complex as something I would find in Subnautica or No Man's Sky. It is usually a couple of rooms attached to each other with a bunch of crafting equipment and storage boxes outside. Of course, this is partially due to how annoying base building in Osiris is. Instead of crafting the room, then deciding where the windows and Corridors are, each wall has to be crafted even if you can't choose which type of wall it should be. If it takes a minute to build a corridor due to having to build each segment of the corridor, then there is something wrong.

With all that said, I do agree that we need a tool that can change the color of the walls. Not sure if it should be the Habitat Builder, a console similar to the Cyclops' console and Vehicle Modification Station that allows us to change the color of our vehicles, or a new handheld tool. A console would be easier to implement changes while a handheld tool would allow more precise customization.
