Your favorite un-appreciated bands
So, my friend and I do this thing every couple of weeks where we go into a local music store and buy cds based solely upon band name, cd cover, or song titles.

You get bit in the a_ss every now and then, but we've actually uncovered a number of excellent unadvertised bands that way . . so, does anyone have any non-mainstream bands that they want to give a little shout-out?

Recent great pickups: Abandoned Pools, Flickertsick, Woven, The Juliana Theory, the a_s_s Ponys, Further Seems Forever . . .

Let 'em rip, folks

And yes, Msr. Evil . . everyone knows about the Weather Girls and 'It's Raining Men' . . . don't bother . . .

Yeah. MonsE had a -19.5K- file that had a HUGE list of 'bad words' and he just sorta stuck it in the 'bad word filter'. It was filtering sex earlier. As if sex were a bad thing.

    'SparkleHorse'
    'Boy Hits Car'
    'IdleWild' (well known? hmmm)

...'Abandoned Pools' are v good too...

Hey, I've heard of Sparklehorse-- they have some very good songs . . didn't know they were still around . . I'll have to explore them, and the other ones you mentioned.

Yes, Abandoned Pools is great. Apparently, it's more or less a solo side project by the ex bassist for the eels (another great band) . . .

There's an NJ-based punk band called Random Task that I really get a kick out of. Dunno if you guys have heard of them or not, but they're very good.

Alright, maybe having Hell in there was a bit over the top. It's allowed now.

I am going to say 'Minor Threat' for a punk band that never got the attention it deserved, and 'Catch-22' for Ska. Both excellent.

Can I bring up 'In the Navy'?

If you're gonna talk about ska bands then you can't forget "Operation Ivy". They rocked! And since very few here would remember these guys I'd have to throw in "Helmet" and "Black Flag".

What an amazing coincidence that a Marine brings up "In the Navy"...

Ahhhh, Helmet. 'In the Meantime' is one of the all time hardcore ownage songs ever. And you can see my feelings on Black Flag in the other music poll topic. Rollins is basically the Man.

Slacker Gen, you have almost no chance of having heard of them...

You've probably heard of them, but I'll still mention them anyways. I sometimes like to listen to Fugazi, if I'm feeling a need for heavy axe work.

Yes, I know I've already posted on this topic once, but I figured I'd mention another basically unknown group. This one's called Blind Guardian, they do a lot of really epic metal stuff(I think the term the guy who introduced me used is "bardic rock"). It's good stuff.

    Some of my favorite under-appreciateds:

Mr. Bungle, GWAR, Delerium, Coldcut, X-cops, Cydonia, Death.

And of all these little-known bands, I've heard of Flickerstick. Yes, just that one, and I don't even listen to them. I'm just a mainstream kind of guy.

I only listen 2 underground metal: morbid angel (well known i guess), deicide, obituary, cannibal corpse and Altar.
Now Altar is very good, it's a dutch band, not even in holland many people know it, but it's real good metal, doesn't exist ne more i guess, everybody left the band except the bassist, who said he would make a new altar, but no word about that.Oh lowbrow is good 2, and six feet under, so many bands deserve more attention. What about Meshuggah dunno in America, it's a swedish band i think, in Belgium really no-one knows it, although i have the impression they're pretty big in other countries.
