Possible Character Role and Backstory

So I had this idea for a possible story that revolves around the player character.

The character finds a bunch of audio files that were recorded by the captain of the aurora. Some examples of what's broadcast in each file include.

Him talking about the Degasi going down as it happens.
Planning a rescue mission
life aboard the Aurora as it's traveling, maybe even names and some backstory for him and others.
Aurora being hit
Him going through the aurora looking for stray passangers to help to life pods.
Him getting into his own life pod, where it's revealed that he is the player character by mentioning the life pod #.



Also, you know the theory of how time moves at different speeds in space? What if the Degasi crashed all those years ago, but in their home planet, it was only a year or so until they sent the Aurora?

it would be a good way to introduce the player to basic game play like walking, running, swimming, equipping, using/activating things it could be a interesting way to start the story as well as choose whether the player is male or female
