Currently the game crashes whenever I explore for around five minutes. Game was fine recently, but I saved and closed the program and now the issue is pervasive. I had about 30 hours without crashing up until this point and had never closed the program. Interestingly, as long as I never leave the base it doesn't crash. 
I noticed that I can see the inside of the base from across the ocean when i am inside the Cyclops - which was a recent construction for me. I could see the base through geographical features.
Another bug which occured right before this string of crashes involved placing and activating the scanning room. Trying to place the scanning room caused significant issues. It would show red, no matter where I placed the room for quite some time until I got it in exactly the right spot somehow.
