Should we fear the night?

A lot of aquatic predators hunt primarily at dawn and dusk (i.e. are crepuscular). During the day in shallow waters prey can spot them earlier.

Furthermore, night time actually provides more protection for prey species in open waters. So there is a great vertical migration where fish dive deeper during the day, and reach the surface to feed at night. This is obviously most true of open water biomes (e.g. Red-grass, Sparse Reef, Grand Reef, Dunes). These should actually be safer at night and fish should be more active (instead of shutting their eyes and sinking to the bottom??).

So, my 2 cents: We should enjoy the dark!

I like that idea, but I still think certain predators should come out ONLY at night, as to keep things fresh furthermore than just a change of lighting.

For example, I'd like to see more Reapers at night. I'd like to see MANY more Bleeders at night as well, almost like swarms of mosquitoes in the Creepvine Forest.

Obviously in caves things are a little more stagnant due to the fact that Day and Night have little to no bearing there.

Stalkers are more aggressive and have a larger aggro range at night. Sand sharks were supposed to be more aggressive at night from something I read, which is likely out of date at this point, but I've never noticed a difference since they are 100% aggressive 100% of the time.

Yeah, randomisation of aggression would be wonderful.

I'm not sure that is ideal because it'd simply encourage players to stay at their base during the night. But that is just my opinion of course!

I think it'd be more ideal if some predators were active during the day, some were active at night, and most were active at dusk...

It would make threats vary more. It'd also be awesome if some predators changed their locations/densities depending on the time of day.

Along with day/night cycle aggression there should also be some reason for people to go out at night too, such as certain bio-luminescent plants that bloom after dark or otherwise rare species that come up from the depths to feed to encourage players to explore various biomes after night fall instead of using the dark periods to craft and organize inventory lockers.

Then there would be more incentives to go out at night. Make fish much easier to catch at night. Have most of the fish retreat to the Shallows and increase the population there. The downside is that creatures would be more aggressive.

Some species may be nocturnal so you can't get them unless you go out at night.
